Just checking if it is possible to open a new bank account in another bank and ask the current bank to transfer money over? Or is it a must to bank in cheque?

I think the current bank will ask you to transfer online yourself or buy a cashier's order from them, if there is no cheque book tied to the account.

If you are withdrawing from your own account, and withdrawal cheque is the account holder’s (ie your) name, there should be no charge.

Else the bank will charge $5 for the cheque.

Bank of China sometimes do give attractive FD rates and sometimes even short tenure like 9 months.

It is good for those that may need not need long tenure like 12 months or 24 months.
Get up to 3.59% p.a. with Maybank Foregin currency Time Deposit. Min $10k units of AUD, NZD or USD, 3-6 moths tenure. Last day 30th June.
Hi all,

SGD is still a strong currency and I am not sure what foreign currencies would be good for investment.

The Malaysian Ringgit crossed 2.8 a few days ago. Those who bought Iskandar units for retirement some years ago probably lost 20% from foreign exchange alone.

AUD close to parity now and likely to remain weak due to lack of demand for Australian mineral riches.

USD has not really strengthened much against S$ and the rate of USD 1= S$1.35 appears stable for the near term.

Euro is likely to be weak with Grexit and all the loose monetary policy.
