      minnie2004:
My maid (the one who's going to Denmark) says her friend who's working for our neighbour downstairs in our building wants to replace her. She complained to her that she's not getting enough food by her current employer. She's been working there for 1 year.

I've never hired a transfer maid before. Do you guys know what are the procedures? Should I go through an agent and how much do I need to pay? I'm also wondering if it's weird when our neighbour find out their old maid is working for us (we bump into them in the lift from time to time)
I think it's good to approach her employer to have a talk. They may get :x but chances are ... it's not towards you but the maid. Also, never take the one side of the story, confirm with the employer whatever she said is true. Maids lie to get a change of employers, mainly through sympathy.

I personally have employed 2 transfer in the last 2 years. The first said that they didn't allow her to bathe everyday, only wipe herself and wash hair once a week. Only scarce food (meaning no big fish or big meat). Honestly, I'm not sure how much to believe it, she was the one who requested a transfer from that employer. I was \"tortured\" by her and her lies for 1.5 years, sent her back and reported her to police for child abuse.

2nd maid, was supposedly 'returned' because they said she can't speak good English. Then the next story I heard was, they screamed at agent for lying about her actual age (grossly young at 16) and told her NEVER let next employers know her real age. By the time I realised the 2nd truth, it was too late. Anyway, i'm happy with her, and now knowing she's so young, i tend to be more lenient with her and lots more understanding and doting. Happy situation

My late grandparents maid actually during the funeral, already made plans to transfer to another family on her own. This family lives only few houses away. I guess we're more pissed with her than the employers since she was the one who jumped employment in a blink even though we still needed her.

        Hi carebear and blurqueen,

Thanks for your input. I've asked my maid to arrange an interview with her tmr to find out more info. What she said about the lack of food should be true though as my maid mentioned it to us long time ago. So she didn't say that with the intention of replacing my maid.

There's a risk that once the maid tells her employer she's quiting, the employer might send her back to the Philippines if they get really mad. Is it then very troublesome for us to bring her back to Singapore again (i.e. same procedure as getting a new maid from Philippines)?

Also, according to her bio data, this maid has a degree in \"computer secretariat\". DH is a bit concerned if it's good that she knows too much about computers 😐

My maid of coming of 2 years decides to go back & not renew her contract.

Now I have to to look for a new maid again....

Before I go to different agents to look for bio-datas, any recommendation of a good maid agency? Also, what is the current market rate for Indo maids now, let's say just with home country experience?

          Tks 🙂

          Rgds,
          Ming

kiasimom, aiyo! where have you been? haven’t seen you around here. Miss you leh!!

Btw, mummies my current indo maid ask me permission to pray. i agreed and guess what! She prays 4 times a day! She told me actually Muslim need to pray 5 times but because at night she needs to cook so she cuts down to just 4 times. Now, my concern is will the different GOD fight? I mean due to the different religion in the same house?? sorry, actually I sound kind of stupid. But just wondering…

I guess its not so good but then its my personal opinion 😛

We are afraid she might turn on our PC when we're away, either to use it or get access to our confidential files.

mwchua, I got my indo maid recently for a salary of $350. She’s an ex-spore for 4 years. Actually according to my agent, ex-sin salary should be $370 but I interview the maid and ask her if she was willing to accept $350 because I think it should be made clear before she comes to Singapore. I don’t want to cheat her. She agree to the pay so I confirm her. i believe its also because my house is small and my gal goes to primary school, so she’s free in the afternoon. although she has work with me for only 3 weeks, i m happy with her except for the praying part.

Also, I don’t think there’s any good agent in Singapore. I use my agent because the payment terms is Post dated cheques so I only pay agency fees in cash and the rest are P.D cheques. Choosing a maid is really heng or suah. You won’t know whether the maid agency is good or not until problem arise. Good Luck.

minnie, you can set password in your computer unless she is so good she can hack through your password!! But if she has a degree then she probably won’t work long, I guess. So make sure you spell out the conditions to her.

Well, I told my maids that this is a "Christian" home, it’s improper for her to pray to "other gods". Just like no one will allow a Christian to pray to their own God in a mosque or temple regularly, the similar logic applies. To me, I feel it’s an insult and inconsideration.

I also never allowed her to fast although behind my back, she did it and i had to scold her. I can’t risk her falling sick or fainting from not eating while doing housework all day! Who knows, she might turn the tables around one fine day and said I starved her!
