      Candy Candy:
      Hi all,

Have a question for you...Forget about the phases, distance, etc.., if you can choose one school for your daughter, which one would be? and why yes or why not to the others?

      MGS
      RPGS
      NYPS
      SCGS

      I'll greatly appreciate your input!
You are very lucky if you have all the 4 choices to choose from. The reason why you can have all is (this is what I can think of),
      - mother studied in MGS Pri - phase 2A
      - mother studied in SCGS Sec - phase 2A
      - daddy studied in NYPS - phase 2A
      - and you are staying 1km/2km from RGPS - phase 2C no need ballot

        Buckbrick:
I've been living in bukit timah for more than a decade and there are 2 things that have not changed despite all the improvements - traffic and flooding during rainy season.

I can attest that the traffic is horrendous in the morning and evening. Miss a u-turn and you are stuck all the way to the next. I pick my dd up from preschool at 5.45pm and will not reach home till 6.30 and that is in light traffic. I got stuck at Nyps area once and got home only at 7pm.

I used to think that sure, I can live with the incovenience just as long as my kids can attend the best school. Noble? Yes - but you have to be pragmatic in the end.

This is caused by \"passing through\" traffic that has got nothing to do with school nor residence .... apparently somebody started to pass through the area and contribute to evening traffic jam INSIDE King's Road & Coronation Road

Can anyone tell me how is the traffic like along bukit timah road starting from farrer road to HCI at the U-turn to NYGH and dunearn road at NJC from 6.45am to 7am?

I drop off DD at NYPS around 7am. There is always a long line of traffic waiting to make the U-turn.

            Hi Mummies

I am new here. My DD will be going to P1 in 2013. I was from NYGH, but unfortunately not from NYPS. I am really interested to put my DD in NYPS for the chinese environment and also I am hoping she’ll enter NYGH in future too. But we stay >2km. from the statistics, its says no balloting for Phase 2B, so does it mean that if I get chosen for PV, and I complete the 80hrs, DD will be almost guaranteed a place (based on previous stats)? To apply for PV, do I e-mail the school using the generic e-mail address, or do I apply via the NYPS PTA website? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You need to download the PV form from the school website, fill it up and either send or post it to the school. They will review you form and if you can get through their screening they will select you as their PV. But I know their screening process is very stringent. Remember you are applying the top primary school in Singapore. Not only you apply but many, many Singaporean and forigner parents also apply. The competition will be tough. By looking at the past years statistics only about ~40 vacacies in P2B. I’m sure there are at least a few hundred parents applied for PV every year but this number is not published.

Yes the top school in Singapore NYPS where therefore the PV must be 超级义工。

Did you study in NYGH before 1978?

Now this is only hearsay, and I can’t confirm whether it’s true or not. 1978 was the year NYPS broke away from NYGH. So I heard that if you were a NYGH student on or before 1978, you can qualify for phase 2A registration.

It’s best you confirm that with the school.

                    Hi Parents,

We are planning to move close to one of these schools and not sure which school we have to choose. Its understood that the rentals near Henry Park would be very expensive. Keeping that aside, from a school perspective can you all give your feedback on which is a better school. Which school will have more pressure?

I searched and read lot of articles on this site, but I am still not clear.

thanks for your feedback in advance.

You can always get a rental at Ghim Moh (which is not far away) @ a cheap rate.

HPPS is a GEP school, Rulang is not

Rulang really DRILLS the students, some parents say as if there is no night no day with the homework drilling the kids…my sis-in-law’s kid is there, my kids’ tuition teacher’s kid was there too - all said the same thing about Rulang. An ex-teacher of Rulang now teaching in HPPS said the same thing too. Rulang is considered the "Best" in western part of singapore with a long history
