There are 3 rivers and after each river lies a grave. So there are 3 rivers and 3 graves. A man wants to leave the same amount of flowers at each grave, and be left with none at the end. What happens though is that each time he passes through one of the rivers the number of flowers he has doubles. So how many flowers does he have to start off with taking into consideration that they double, so that he is left with no flowers whatsoever at the end? Add up the 1st 5 positive nonzero real numbers that can solve this.

          Hope you can help. Thanks.

I remember doing this question before.

You have to start off with 7 flowers and put 8 flowers on each grave.
            So, it is like: 7, 14, 6, 12, 4, 8, 0

You can do this with all multiples of 7, so the first five positive nonzero real numbers are: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35

If you start off with 14 flowers and put 16 flowers on each grave:
            14, 28, 12, 24, 8, 16, 0

If you start off with 21 flowers and put 24 flowers on each grave:
            21, 42, 18, 36, 12, 24, 0

If you start off with 28 flowers and put 32 flowers on each grave:
            28, 56, 24, 48, 16, 32, 0

If you start off with 35 flowers and put 40 flowers on each grave:
            35, 70, 30, 60, 20, 40, 0

            7+14+21+28+35=105

Hi. Since this is also your home, I guess I can ask you some questions about yourself. What school are you from? Your occupation is a student so you should be in a school.
