Hi all,


I would like to ask about the JR pass for tourist to Japan. May I check if I can use the JR Pass for train in Tokyo (Narita airport to Shinjuku, Odaiba, Ikebukuro, Shibuya, Tokyo Disneyland & also from Tokyo to Osaka via the bullet train-Shinkansen)? Can I say this 1 time ticket will allow me to travel around the places in Japan?

I am abit confused by the types of train. I would like to purchase the JR pass before my trip.

Can anyone help with my queries and also send me the link to purchase?

Depends on the type of pass your buy. The all Japan pass should cover all the train rides for these places except the disney line and the Nozomi Shinkansen. But do note that traveling within Tokyo, it will not cover the subways. So if you want to use your all japan pass, you can only use on the train lines eg the yamanote line within Tokyo is a train line but the marunouchi line is a subway line. The Narita express is covered by the all japan pass.

Depends on the type of pass your buy. The all Japan pass should cover all the train rides for these places except the disney line and the Nozomi Shinkansen. The JR Pass is a train pass. The JR lines are covered the the All Japan JR Rail pass.
The rest are subways like our MRT and are not covered by the pass.
the Narita Express is covered.
Going to disney, only up to Maihama is covered by the JR pass. You change to the disney line at Maihama and the Disney line is not covered.

I still can't make up my mind for the year-end hols :roll:
The bullet trains in Kyshu are quite nice too.

I like the toilets in the bullet trains. There are some local trains that have toilets. The best part is the toilets are clean.

I went to Disneyland many years ago. I thought there is a JR line/train that goes straight to Maihama Stn? Maybe am mistaken.

But at Maihama must pay for the disney line that takes you Disneyland or DisneySea. The disney line is a loop that links the disney parks to Maihama.

My sister going to Kyushu at the end of the year. She bought SQ tickets direct to Fukuoka. So convenient. Then no need to buy All Japan rail pass. Just buy Kyushu rail pass cheaper.

Go Taiwan lah!! Hehe. I am looking forward to my Taiwan trip. bTW, did you do London/Cambridge in the end? I am planning to go next June. May need to consult you.

I like Beppu and Yufuin.
The Nagasaki Chinatown was a disappointment as compared to Yokohama's.
The Peace Park of Nagasaki can't be compared to Hiroshima's too.
But the Mt Inasa ropeway was gd.
I bet you have tried sara udon or champon.

No, I didnt do London/Cambridge at all though initially planned for year-end. Dh and dd want to go there to watch football which made me :roll:

I went Kyushu so many years ago (17?) with ANA Holidays, I forgot almost everything already except the wonderful hotspring bath at Beppu. But I actually like the atomic bomb museum in Nagasaki better. Still remember the clock that stopped at the time of the strike. Maybe because it was my first visit so it made an unforgettable impact and impression.

Haha...you travel to too many places already, so maybe everything not so exciting any more. Year end NZ not bad. Weather is nice. Good for relaxing and slow pace vacation. Actually a lot of family time opportunity. UK too grey in Dec. I was in London in oct previously and weather so grey and dark so early.
