28 year old Singapore teacher burdened by hefty loan

ya agree. The car is something I cannot understand. I wonder did they do their sums correctly.
-
Why resale 4-room and not 3-room flat?
Why think about wedding dinner when you can’t afford one?
umm… sometimes I wonder if these articles are out just to push people to blame gahman… … -
Observed that they have received much education but are not financial savvy :? Do they belong to the new generation that only know how to blame the government for their predicament when everything is actually within their control

reading thru the abv link, I cannot help but sense opposition activists campaigning for selection voting.
apparently, 'many' out there (refer link) lack financial management skills and are living out of ones' means. And conveniently lament and pt finger at the govt.
gladfully kiasu club members are more objective and matured

Well said!!!! .......we need resilient Young people that take
responsibility for their own life and livelihood and not depend
all the time for handout from parents or government and can
live within their means ..........
If not the young foreigner will take over as they have more resiliency coming to SG looking for a better life than where they are from...
Young people need to look beyond the comfort zones that the gahment and parents have created for them and come back to Earth .....haizzzzzz :slapshead:

actually I think she is really not ready for marriage... cos in her fifth paragraph:
Can we buy a new flat? I do not wish to wait for another 3 to 4 years, anything can happen to our relationship during this period of time. It is a risk I cannot afford to take.
The rest, same opinion, get rid of the car, to help pay the housing loan. -
Combined income of 5k is actually what many would consider to be comfortable. If that lady is buying branded stuff, eating at restaurants, no wonder she can complain ‘money no enuf’.
What does she expect? Govt to give out free vouchers for 5 star hotel wedding dinners? Give free apartment for getting married (and must be high floor with good view)? It’s incredible what pp’s mindset can be like.
Totally agree that cars are a liability. There may be overriding reasons for the car to be a necessity, I’ll not quibble with that. But if she wants one, she should have known better.
Church wedding with a simple luncheon can be way more meaningful than a 8-course dinner in a restaurant. Plus, having dinner may not be an expensive affair (I had mine in a traditional restaurant and made a profit out of it…not that profit should even part of the consideration). -
Sorry to hear this. Just an opinion, although it is harsh…
Live by the motto: Nothing is for free, You got to work for what you want. Look beyond the problem, and accept the fact that all problems begin with self.
Suspect should the cost-of-living problem overwhelm the couple, they probably never truely find success in career, peace in family and harmony in marriage. -
Actually what irritated me more were those who actually sympathised her. And looking at the people who responded on that thread, it appears she has many sympathisers.
