Congrats to him but please do not bring the gay culture back to Singapore as a legal thing from Baltimore.iFirefly:
:congrats:
Tan Kuan Hian receives the President's Scholarship and Singapore Police Force Scholarship
In an interview with the Straits Times, Kuan Hian, who will be studying liberal arts at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, said that he hopes to help those who are 'most vulnerable'.
'Often, they are victims of crimes who are thus most in need of help, or they may be accused persons who are feeling confused or scared,' the aspiring police officer explained. He plans to enrol in a social outreach programme that will look at policies and issues affecting residents in Baltimore.

Hope his character is strong enough not to be influenced while embracing the diversity.
Because Baltimore has a small gay district with gay pubs? Or because he's picked liberal arts?
If that's the case, won't those who go to NYU or Columbia in NYC; Stanford in CA; U of Tx at Austin; UIC in IL; MIT/Harvard in MA (Boston) be more influenced by gay culture?
Effective this year, same sex marriage is legal in EVERY US STATE. Every US college grad has the potential to be influenced, going by that logic.
The American cities with the highest gay populations are New York City with 272,493, Los Angeles with 154,270, Chicago with 114,449, and San Francisco with 94,234, as estimated by the Williams Institute in 2006. However, one is much more likely to encounter gay residents in San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Boston as a higher percentage of those cities' residents are gay.
Anyway, very OT. -
JS, apart from that, most likely going into public service and politics. Hopefully the youngsters know how to change where required and preserve what is good for our society.
-
I never heard of Baltimore as gay city but I heard San Francisco is the \"gayest\" city with 6.2% LGBT.

Anyway, :congrats: to Tan Kuan Hian! -
No need to be the largest, top 5 gay cities out of 295 cities in USA and top 10 most dangerous cities in USA, enough to give me the goose bumps. But I suppose good training if he wants to be a law enforcer in future.
Anyway, not that anything dramatic would happen, but as a President Scholar, he is like a role model to the young and likely a future leader. -
DS gotten a WL for DSA.
Can anyone advise what is the chance of getting it converted to CO ?
Would it be consider as good as a rejection /better to try via T score since it is unlikely people will reject a CO from RI? -

The higher the student's ranking on the WL, the higher the chance of it converting to CO.

Not true that nobody will reject RI CO. Some students have multiple COs and they may have a preference for certain schools instead.
For example SolverTheSolver:
I also DSA for HCI. NUSH is my first choice.

Not really. 1 place is likely to be given up, almost 90% as of now. :censored: :evil:DS gotten a WL for DSA.

If you add the one that quoted by metz2, that will make it 2 likely cases.
Good luck to your DS. -

Hopefully DS is high on the WL to be able to 'catch' onto those that were given up. :xedfingers: -

My daughter (now Yr4) was recently briefed about RAs in RI. Some questions about Science RAs in Yr5:
1) Does RA continue into Yr6? Does it complement or lead into an H3 course? Do students do both RA and H3 in Yr6?
2) What is the independent research component like for science RAs? My daughter is rather concerned about what that might entail.
3) Do science RAs prepare the students for competitions like Olympiads, or is that done separately?
Thanks for any info!
