A mummy of a P6 boy (last year) recommended a English tution teacher to me. This lady is staying nearby Pei Hwa, at Toh Yi Drive estate. Any comments/feedback appreciated?

      I have a boy in P1.
      Hi

Is it the one at Blk 2? my boy attends her tuition, joins last year. Can see improvements. basically he has to do 5 pgs of grammar, 5 pgs of vocab mcq, test paper weekly. alternate wk, she will give compo on top of those i had mentioned.

        Hi Tweet,

I thought I was giving my boy a lot of work, but looks like it is reasonable since all are MCQ. Bcos of time constraint now, I give him grammar and vocab on same day and throw in a test paper too. Comprehension & synthesis will be practised another day.

        Prisnkc,
Son’s P3 CL teacher from last year told me about the stringent marking of exam papers from P3…this way students will learn and adopt the proper way of answering comprehension questions by the time they are in P6.
It sounded harsh to me, but I guess it is better to start early than adapt to it only at P5 or P6 which is too late.
Would you like to try out this EL tutor and see how it goes ?

          Hi Janet

At first,my son finds that english tuition work too much to handle, as he has other subjects to do too. However, with a weekly schedule, he is able to finish all his work.

            Hi tweet,

Yes, the one at Blk 2. Which level is your son this year?
How’s the teacher teaching style? If they dun understand, will there be further explanations? For compo, will the teacher teach how to approach/write, like the opening and how to end.

            Janet,

            Will consider.

              Hi

My son is in P6. Her classes are morning for P1 and P2, afternoon for other levels, only weekdays. Grammar, vocab if there are mistakes, do corrections and show her, usually she will explain. she will provide the \"linking\" phrases, including opening and closing for the compo, what the child needs to do is to follow the phrases and should be able to write a good one.

                  Hi Prisnkc,

Do consider, since EL is an impt subject like Higher Chinese. Maybe you can plan a daily schedule for him.

                    Hi Janet,

I try to assign him some work (like assessment, spelling) for him to complete in the morning before school.

He’s attending Chinese enrichment on Sat morning. English seems quite important to me, esp the Maths nowadays is not so straight forward. Looks like he has to attend Engish tution.

                      Hi Prisnkc,

My son’s CL tuition is during the weekdays…Saturday morn is to complete tuition hw.

EL is very impt…like you mentioned, Maths is not so straightforward now. I ask hubby what son’s Maths questions mean and he said they are actually asking in an indirect manner :x but ultimately it’s like addition or subtraction but just twisting of words.
