MMI is an excellent school especially the methodology. My son is in N2 this year and he is in MMI Seng Kang he had kind and understanding teachers last year. However the turn over rate for his class from PG till N1 was really high. This year the form teacher seems to be lazy and not effective in handling the kids. This is very disheartening getting such hopeless teachers with no passion and tolerance in PREMIUM schools like MMI.

          Hi Rachelmum

thanks so much for sharing what you know abt Josiah... it helped!

I guess there is no 'perfect' preschool... mandarin-wise, looks like we might be headed for Berries at some point haha.... but think I'll probably give Josiah a try for a start and see where that takes us.

Price-wise, yeah, it's the highest in the neighbourhood, but I'm trying to console myself that I'm paying a premium for the convenience, cos it's really near me... and we can drop her on the way to the mrt before we go to work...

          cheers! :celebrate:

              Hihi

I’m new to this forum and have reported as a newbie.

I’ve read this entire thread and the history cos I’m wondering whether to send my little boy to a Montessori school.
I must thank everyone for all your insightful comments and information.
              It has been extremely enlightening!
Also thanks to buds for all the info too!

I wonder if anyone has any comments or know of the Early Years Montessori at Sunset Way.
I’m thinking of sending my 19 month old son there next year for N1.
Couldn’t find much info or reviews on it at all…

Montessori methods aim to achieve a confident, self learner.
However does anyone know if the children at Monte schools truly have fun during the classes? Or do they tend to be more focused and hard at work at the tasks? Will there be enough social interaction and also time allocated to run and play freely as well? I’m a little concerned if I start my child at 2+ years old at a Montessori school would the environment be stifling?

One last question hee… my son is currently going for weekend class once a week to GUG where he’s exposed to phonics. Although he’s not really saying the sounds yet tho.
After reading this thread I realize that buds you said that the proper way is to teach the letters of alphabets first before their phonetic sounds??
              Oh oh…
seems like I’m not doing it right??

Please help to give me any reviews or comments if possible as I’m getting more confused n undecided wrt choosing a Montessori school or one of those ‘branded’ schools.
              Thanks in advance!!

Hi rachelmum, thanks for your valuable input. really appreciate it 😉

Yes.. in fact we all appreciate it. 😉

                  You heard about the methodology..

You read up and research further cos you were considering it for your child..

You made your rounds to the different Montessori centres and assessed the

environment for yourself.. You did trial lessons with a few to test market with

your girl and for you to gauge the effectiveness of the programme.. You went

on to try out the most expensive centre to see if indeed it works out for you

and your girl.. Down the road, teachers make the difference... the distance

also made a difference for you... Especially with very young children, distance

can be a pain and easily tire the child and make him/her grumpy.

I agree that it doesn't necessarily mean that an expensive centre or a

branded centre is definitely the best. Do not simply go with hearsay.

You earned my respect for your determination in learning more about

what you wished to know and all that homework you did with your

research definitely helped you with your ground work (the recce-ing ard).

And btw, i have replied to your PM sometime back. 😄 Hope it did help

to answer your doubts. 😉 Am very happy to note you finally settled

down with the one you and your daughter are comfortable and happy with. :celebrate:

                  thanks.
Heyya rainbows, one student care teacher recommended Shekinah Montessori

around your area. I cannot vouch for it cos i have never been to that side

of Singapore to recce schools thus far.. But you may wish to check it

out if it's nearby. There are however varied opinions from different parents

on every individual centre. Go with the one that your gut and motherly

instincts tells you.... this is it.

After shortlisting a few centres, then try to arrange for your child to follow

you for a second visit or opt for a trial lesson wherever possible. Children

who are old enough, can also show you when they feel comfortable with a

new place and definitely also the person who will be working closely with

them. Younger ones who are still very much attached to the caregiver may

not offer objective displays of preference as most times they would want to

cling to the caregiver and may not be that open to meeting new people yet.

Hope you find THE one soon ya? Update us here and share your views and

your journey of preschool shopping with us. Hear from you soon. Cheerios.
