We bought the prepaid data SIM card Iijmio which has 2GB data valid for 3 months. Cost JPY4,100.
Now they have a new one which is for 1GB for 30 days. -
If you need data for multiple devices then you may consider this :

We rented the standard pocket wifi for 14 days at 7650yen last December . We were able to use 3-4 devices at any 1 time. We managed to use it at ulu part of Hokkaido too !wonderm:
Yes, really overwhelmed by information.starlight1968sg:
For those keen to diy, u may be overwhelmed by info. But fear not, read the travel guide books, itineraries fr travel agencies etc to shortlist the places u want to visit.
From there, then u source how to get there, hotel etc.
By the way, any advice about mobile plan/device which we should get for our 10 days trip? Thanks. -

Comparing to Nara, i personally prefer Miyajima.I am so happy to find this thread!
We are going for a F&E trip to Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka this Dec.
I am still planning the itinerary, am considering a day trip to Nara. If we are based in Kyoto, would you suggest that we go Nara or Miyajima or both? By the way, we are family of 2 adults and one teenage boy.
Information on Nara: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2165.html
Information on Miyajima: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3401.html
Miyajima is about 2.5-3 hours away from Kyoto. Assuming if you are willing to spend 5-6 hours on travelling, you can do Miyajima.
Of course, you can do some changes to your itinerary if you wish to cover Miyajima.
I tweaked my itinerary a bit such that i stayed in Okayama and cover Hiroshima in a day.

It might be good if you can post your rough itinerary here as well. Might be able to provide you with more advice. -

I will avoid the area, noting not only the radiation leak but the recent flood seemed to affect Miyagi prefecture and around that area.

However, we are talking about Mar 26 2016 and so mess from the flood shld be well over except the radiation concern.
It mentioned from Tokyo to Shin Hakodate was about 4-5hr but I guess JR pass may not be applicable. -
