All About Full-Time Maids

Wouldn't it be great that one day we have full force child care, senior care, retirement homes, serviced apartments etc and never have to employ another maid......then see if all these horrible maids will still be so yaya.... so precious that they won't let them go overseas to work as maids in a few years...............I hope they all stay in their own country and let their leaders create domestic jobs for them that pay as much....
That will be great ! But as Singapore becomes more affluent, the houses tend to get bigger so if it is a landed 3 storey property, plus 2 cars, 2 dogs that will be tiring to do it all on your own without help. If you live in a condo, you can get by just nice on your own.. :boogie: Else we need to rely on part time help as in Australia. NO live in maids/servants.
Gone are the days when we can employ locals as home-help and wouldn't cost us an arm and leg (I remember my nanny was a school drop out at primary school) but now, everyone has compulsory 10 years of education so they are not likely to want to work as domestic help. We must still depend on 3rd world country. However, even as the 3rd world country becomes more developed and moves up the ladder to economic sustainability, more opportunities for its people, more exposure to social media, we are going to see
(a) maids who can drive a hard bargain and make demands for more benefits and more salary
(b) less loyalty and more mobility for the maids which basically means not happy just move to another employer.
(c) more nit-picking by the maids (not the employers) about their food, sleeping arrangement and comfort as they would likely to be city girls rather than villagers.
Not easy to be an employer. If we have to take care of bread and butter, the last thing we want is to handle manpower issues at home. City girls vs villagers. Either way is problematic. -
and government still encourage us to give birth to more kids. now even if give us $ doesnt mean we can find a good maid that we can rely on. nowadays alot of us are reliant on maids (i must admit i am though i am trying not to). when you go out on weekends, you see more families with maids in tow. not like last time, maids not so common.

But who are going to be the service personal in those full force child care, senior care, retirement homes, serviced apartments etc ? Singaporeans ? -
Do we behave the way the maids do towards our bosses and still keep our job? No, I doubt anyone of us can get away with that.
I do not disrepect maids…I respect them as I would the next person. But these days, most maids come in with an agenda of how to best take advantage of the employer and have a good time.
MOM is not interested in any ban of bad maids… I imagine they are happy to have less paperwork and just let them circulate because there is levy to collect.
Of course…there’s also the noble standpoint of "maids are human too… they left their family…from the village etc". …Really? Can we get a dog to do housework and shop groceries for us…Of course we know they are humans…All maids have to attend SIP and safety classes…they know what job they are applying for, don’t they? Are they educated and told about the job and signed their signature with letters of some kind of language or did they thumbprint on the contract or mark a big X on their contract. From the recuritment in their village, transport to town, training centre, to Singapore…through agents, MOM SIP and safety classes…did no one tell them what their job was?
To ban a maid from working in Singapore, for eg. stealing…we’d have to charge her in court -

Maybe Singaporeans, maybe not.st2:

If these same people (maids) apply to come to singapore to work, they will be hired by eg cleaning companies. Can they get a job and keep a job they way they behave?
They will not live in our homes and we would not feel vulnerable.
They can get away with their bad behaviour is because they live with us, and it is easy to manipulate us knowing every intimate detail of our lives and close proximity to our loved ones, young and old.
They get away with their bad behaviour is because they can transfer as many employers as they like and most of us tolerate it.
If MOM can only do one thing, and willing to help us is to NOT allow transfer. This will make the maids think twice about losing their job -
So simple ?

I agree even thg it might cause other issue.
I remember few yrs ago Hong kong enforce the rule of 2 weeks for helper to leave HK after resign. There were a protest by helpers on the street.
My ex helper wanted to trf to easy job to take care old folks with 100% freedom. She saw 2-3 families who have helper n ah mah only. No other adult job.
She was afraid being send back to Indo bec this is exactly what her ex employer did.
But, she learned from other to act funny -scream n crazy in 6am for immediate transfer.
This happened few days before psle oral test.
I was so worry she act crazy n jump down from my house. So i trf her back to agent.
I learned my lesson. No matter what helper n agent said, i will not get ex Sin maid again. -
why didnt u send her back to indon instead of letting her trf?

I want to send her back to Indo. But on that day itself, she purposely create a drama.
The night before 10pm+ she was asking for trf for all reason. I said ok i will discuss with u and agent tmr. I prepare to discuss with agent.
At 6am after my children were preparing for school, she cried n said dun want to work for me. Not enuf rest as need to wake up at 5.30am to prepare for kids to go school.
Want to go bk agent now.
She was not talking normally. She was scream n cried at 6am. Look scary.
Imagine i need to prepare 2 young kids to go school n facing a screaming helper?
I tried to calm down n explain to her. She insisted agent open at 9am. So i called agent n calm her down. During this process... she was scary... cried n scream.
Heiz...
My girl was going to take Psle oral the next 2 days. Do i hv the allowance in my life to handle police, MOM, work n my poor little girl?
I cannot.
The only thing I told agent... pls dun be so bad... karma
Do not transfer her to a family with young kids or baby...
Look at MOM point, can i block this helper? Cannot. NGO or MOM w say she is too stress. Cultural shock... blar blar...
Fyi, this helper look normal n friendly to my kids all the while. I will never trust ex Sin maid. -
In Singapore, you think can anyone just go to the streets and protest? In Hong Kong, maids are allowed to get pregnant and have maternity leave.
You tell agent please don’t transfer her to family with young kids or baby…it’s exactly what she expected employers to do…their Indonesia trainees in SIP class teach them to do this.
"If you are not happy with your employer, just ask for transfer. If they refuse, do work badly…break things also they can’t make you pay, last resort act crazy…employer will let you go. Although no pay while waiting for new employer, current employer still have to pay for your food and lodging at agent. Agent die die also will lie and get you new employer because they want to make agent fees from you again."
You think we can act this way in our search for job overseas? When we go overseas to work, no culture shock for us?
