You are welcome ! Our library certainly has the best collection of books. Local bookshops are quite pathetic, I usually cannot buy books that I want locally.

It depends on the length of the books. Rainbow Fairy series books are very short, my girl can finish in less than one hour. If she likes a book, she will read it over and over again, so buying books are a good investment for me.

Joining spree is a good way to 'lighten' your load. I have joined a couple (thanks to friend) but I find a bit unease cos I won't know what is the final hit (exchange rate, shipping). Also, be careful when joining sprees - I have seen enough negative news. :love:

In any case, shipping plus local cost is still wayyyy cheaper than retail bookstores. I will ship from overseas only if it's that is the case.

Tip for you. If you can find box set in amazon, handling charge is for 1 book (versus like 3 or 10 books) plus weight.

I think Singaporean parents have a lot to learn from you too Do feel free to share more about English is taught in UK, I am sure many parents are very interested to know.

My girl will be going to P1 next year. Her school is using the Stellar program.

My understanding of the program is that they will be using story books to teach the language. It is like what cafelatte wrote :
Most current P1&P2 are having English taught with thematic big-story-books with related worksheets

My girl's school also use a grammar textbook.

My own approach at home is similar to the Stellar program. But I think what my kids are reading are much more interesting , they are reading all the children's classics like Charlotte's Web, The adventures of Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, the three tales of My Father's Dragon, Little House on the Prairie, Roald Dahl books, etc, all original and unabridged. I believe that there is so much that a child can learn from reading the classics, not only grammar, vocabulary, and the wonderful style of writing, but also knowledge and life experiences like life and death, love, friendship, hardships, poverty, compassion, etc.

My P1 son tried some of the online content at http://www.stellarliteracy.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=20794 before going to bed last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was challenging and great fun.

Can anyone recommend any online websites with games and worksheets for K1 and K2?

I m having a hard time trying to read together with my 18mth old gal. She won't let me have the book, she will snatch the book from me & just love to flip thru the book herself & after awhile lost interest in it...sigh


We never get to finish reading a book together with her sitting on my lap.

Yap. I have the same experience with my 21mths old girl. She is getting more and more active. Just wanna to play with me.

When i take the book out, her first reaction is " no no i dont want book". She would copy what we say. Most of the times, with my son around is even worst, no one pay attention. I need to do it one to one.

Mostly spending a lot of time just to catch her attention. For me, when she eats or when my son isn’t around, eventhough she isn’t pay attention, i will sit down there and read out. My objective is to show her "i am reading". Hope she will learn.

in light of the recent debate on MT, how come there is no kiasuparents to "bother" on early reading for MT books ? (or i miss it some where ?)
