When got time, will share our drama stories! The recent one being e maid ran away since 29jul2015 and wrongly accused an 81-yo elderly of molest. And e best was this was only revealed to us after we refused sign transfer papers. The case is still hanging in e air despite "chasing" almost daily & no1 can answer timeline, possible outcomes and other queries. We had initially been misled by MOM so we went to Police who pushed back to MOM and now being pushed to CPFB?! Best is e first MOM officer told us that we can IMMEDIATELY hire new maid if we close one eye sign e allowance over. Then e next thing we know, we were debarred from hiring maid! And they insist that there is no misled from e first officer & coincided that our appeal is Election period, no Minister?! We are daily in email with a lot of officers and agencies but their replies are either generic or pushing e buck elsewhere. Best is one email hinted that our appeal is rejected while another email from a generic account sent us an email saying that our appeal is in process and someone will contact us shortly.

Maid agency says this can take up to 6-months or more while e maid stays idle and no need repay her loan! She took 7-months loan and she has only worked 2-months with us and she is boss at home when we are not around at home disregarding e 2 elderly at home when we and 3 kids under 3yo go work and school full-day respectively.

She has even worn a dress to work one day! We told her change but she ignored us till we had to call agent and then she changed and black face. She complains a lot behind our back to e 2 elderly when we at work. She cannot even handle 1kid on her own, will still fall down! After she run off, we discovered transparent clothes and dresses in her belongings but police says none of their business?!

Our kids now have HFMD and no maid to clean stuff, we are debarred with no explanation why?! And we heard more disturbing stuff which is not appropriate to share here. It’s time for real policy changes and to protect us. Any idea where else can we go? We have 3 kids under 3 and 2 elderly over 75!

Last but not least, the maid is with HOME. There is little found about about this Organisation that seems to be run by foreigners and extremely pro-maid that they even refused to hear our version. Online we can see that HOME is v rich and they house "poor thing" maids at who’s expenses? We wonder?! While we agree that e initial set-up to assist truly abused maid is good, over e years, it seems to have eroded. And out of 1 true case, there are tons of false cases which wasted time and money. And end up, usually no further action and e maids get free food, lodging and no penalty and happily get their ways!

            Hi, cp169,
Sorry to hear that. Get back your normal life.
Solve issue one step at a time.
Look for mp (may be) to get help for recruit a maid.
Look for new maid n not transfer maid.
Meanwhile get some part time cleaner.

Dun be down by one helper. We can get our life back.

Sadly, what you said is true of HOME. Having some insider information on HOME, I was told that HOME teach the maids to lie. Even the very good ones who stayed with HOME will soon turn bad. It seems that HOME is determined to tear down employers' integrity and promote lawlessness amongst these migrants. If you go to HOME's facebook, they actually rejoiced everytime an employer is charged. When I was informed about HOME by someone who had been charged by HOME acting on the maid's behalf, I was utterly shocked. Thankfully, the person is cleared after series of interrogation.

I believe HOME gets sponsorship from maid agencies, sympathisers and activists. Whatever it is, NEVER EVER LET your maid fall into their hands. They will coach your maid to charge you with all sorts of lies. The people from HOME are everywhere especially in hospitals where maids are warded for injuries. Tan Tock Seng Hospital is one. Be careful when you bring your maid for checkups or medical attention.

                Dear C169.

To get your life back to normal and to be able to employ a maid, you need to settle this pending case fast. It is best that you see the MP. MPs are busy people and they can't remember everything. So help them by writing down point by point, the facts of your case and see the MP with this letter. The MP will help you. Go to see Mr Lim Swee Say he is MP for East Coast and head of MOM. Register at the CC and Explain to him. If not, you can see your MP at your own GRC. MPs are the best bet for now. Focus on the issue at hand and get them to help you resolve it.

It seems that the maid is blowing up the matter with the help of HOME as it was not serious enough for POLICE intervention (not abuse case). You want to prevent maid from telling more lies on you & taking the charge further, so you should either send maid home (and get a replacement at some loss) or you turn tables on her.

Engage a lawyer to advise you or write a letter on your behalf, if you have money to spare. There are quite a few lawyers in the market specialising in maid cases. They can help you to settle the matter quickly. If you think your maid has wronged you and dragged your family through mud, then proving that your maid is telling lies to destroy your family and loved ones will get her the ban!

Fight your case and fight a good fight. Stand up to them. Don't back down, if you believe that you and your family members are innocent. Don't let others bully you and your family.
Timing and How you strategise and plan your moves one at a time, are very important. Good luck.

My relative’s maid while at HOME, had excursions to Sentosa and all types of activites.

The sad fact is, the maid can just lie and accuse you the employer of abuse. Even if dr examination finds nothing…the investigations go on for months…meanwhile, the maid is having a vacation free food and lodging. All this time, you are banned from getting another maid. When the case against you (the employer) is cleared, you still buy her a ticket to go home.

You cannot charge the maid in court for lying, unless the maid hurt herself and accuse you of the bruise, burn etc, then it will become a court case…in the end, she might not be charge or convicted. Hence, few months later, she can still apply to come to Singapore to work.

The maids know all these tricks.

I think MOM should stop transfers and make it compulsory for ex sin maid to have reference letters with direct employer’s contact.

Most maids have skyped and know what employer’s needs are, they are free to accept or decline the job. Same for employer. If the maid is really crappy after a few months, then employer can send her home with a letter, maybe a form from MOM, stating the review of this maid. If she wants to come to Singapore again, she has to produce this letter. She cannot just simply claim she is ex sin and wants a higher pay.

MOM says we can write in as referee, I’ve emailed them twice, I never got a reply. I think it’s just lip service.

Now the maids are paid well, if they are not happy with their job, they can resign and pay for their own ticket. This no transfer rule alone will make them think twice about doing funny business to make you send her back to agency.

MOM can schedule maids interviews every 6 months to ensure there is fair treatment. I don’t see why MOM can’t help us this way with no transfer rule.

No transfer rule might cost MOM losing a lot of levy, maid agents make less money…will they help us and be ok with losing some money?

Unless the maids are spiteful and malicious, many maids I believe would not wilfully lie and incriminate their employers of abuse if they have been treated fairly. Many of them have simple objectives ie go home or change employers but they see no way to break their contract. I really believe that there are people out there who are coaching these maids to tell lies, incriminate their employers in the belief they are 'helping' these poor under-dogs or just using the maids to further their agendas and gain fame/reputation.

You cannot charge the maid in court for lying, unless the maid hurt herself and accuse you of the bruise, burn etc, then it will become a court case...in the end, she might not be charge or convicted. Hence, few months later, she can still apply to come to Singapore to work.

To get a maid convicted in court is difficult. There are many things that won't qualify for conviction eg if there is no grievous injury or threat to employer's life. But getting a maid banned might be easier. if you can prove that the maid is telling lies to get the employer into trouble then this might constitute malicious intent to harm employer's well-being and would be grounds to justify banning. If MOM thinks that the maid is harmless, no ban. If MOM thinks that the maid can do alot of damage to future employers, then ban.

The maids know all these tricks.
It's time we employers know some tricks too, don't you think so?

I think MOM should stop transfers and make it compulsory for ex sin maid to have reference letters with direct employer's contact.

MOM won't do this unless the voice from the local public is strong enough, loud enough, insistent enough for policies to be changed. Go through MPs.

My relative’s maid was caught stealing, 3 different currencies found in her clothes. 2 currencies are not common currencies. My relatives just came back from these countries. When the police were called in, she turned around and told the police that she was abused.

When abuse is mentioned, the police took her away immediately and everything stands still, no employing another maid for you. Investigations take months. In the end, cleared of abuse they were asked if they wanted to take action on the maid if not, buy her a ticket to send her home. She stole a total of 1K plus, my relatives were so sick of her and disgusted that it was easy for her to accuse them of abuse. They just did not want to let keep her ‘vacation’, so they immediately sent her home, otherwise, waiting to go to court will take months and they feel they have to relive all this unpleasantness and anger.
