i know of quite a few already, average student in Spore, but because family is rich, can go overseas to study. So doing medicine overseas.
And i really believe many of our \"average\" Singapore students are really very bright actually. Just that Singapore sets the bar too high and makes them look \"average\". -

It works for some, but not all will do well. It's not the case that all kids will necessarily do well in the UK. There are also factors such as adjustment, self-discipline etc which should be taken in consideration.
Agree somewhat ... but I'm waiting to verify that it is indeed easier to do your A levels in UK. Top surgeon in Spore I know sent his 2 dcs to UK. They cmi in Spore. I want to see if the 2 dcs can really come back with a medical degree.
Another case, my dd's RG friends were complaining abt one of their friends who performed mediocre in Y1-4 in RG and was ranked much lower than most of them academically. but this girl went to UK to do A levels and has already got a place in a top UK univ while the rest of them are slogging away for their A levels now.
In uk and ire land, there are about 10,000 applicants to 4000 places in med school.
In uk A level schools there is no GP, no second language no PW. just focus on your 3 or 4 A level or H2 subjects
Of course there are some who don't do well even without the nonsensical GP PW -
Students in the UK get to do their A levels over two years. That is, they take a first set of papers in year 1 and the second set in year 2. In that sense, it’s less stressful. They also don’t have to do subjects like CL, PW, GP.
But a key reason why many send their kids overseas to do their A levels is because they gain entry into the coveted courses in uni as they enter as local students rather than compete with all the other international students. There’s an international student quota.
So yes, students who went over to the UK to do their A levels and who were far weaker than their friends in sg will likely gain a place more easily in the UK unis than their sg friends applying as international students. International students compete against the best of the best from all over the world for VERY limited places. -

But the parents stayed there with the kids - at least that was the case for my daughter's friends. -
