      Hi all,

I am planning to take my family to Hong Kong end of this year. Appreciate your suggestions on accommodation (any cheap & good one?), nice food, good shopping places and of course places for children. Thanks…

personally will not recommand HK for young children.

        bad air, strong viruses.
think of the recent haze. something like that there year long. summer is worse.
during change of seasons and winter, super strong flu viruses.

the last time we went with my son (going two at that time), end up become a hospital tour.

Hong Kong is generally a crowded place

If properly planned it can still be enjoyed and year end is quite cool (not that cold)…December is around 10 to 15 degrees, very comfortable

Most hotels in HK have very small rooms. Those whose rooms are huge are pricey.

If you want to stay on Kowloon side, I would recommend the YMCA at Salisbury, just next to the Peninsula. The rooms are clean and its location is within walking distance to most shopping in Kowloon, visit the Space & Science Museum just across the road, and walk to shop at Harbour City.

Book early and it is quite reasonably priced, and they also have family rooms. If you are lucky, they would give you the room with harbour view - which in December is very nice because you can view the Christmans light up of all the building on HK Island - very beautiful - sometime more beautiful than our Orchard Road (lacking in creativity liao)

If you prefer to stay at HK Island, try the Holiday Inn Express at Causeway Bay, just next to the HK Time Square, and within "spitting" distance of the MTR station too. This hotel only has low frills rooms and all rooms come with breakfast. Expects typical HK efficiency and service quality.

Back to Kowloon, sometime you can get a good rate for the Holiday Inn at Golden Mile (50 Nathan Road) , the rooms are huge, not far from the YMCA.

Both YMCA @ Salisbury and Holiday Inn Golden Mile are served by shuttle bus from the Airport Express train station at Kowloon, FOC.

If going to HK Island side’s Holiday Inn Express, take the airport express to HK station and take a cab, about HK$25.

                  Hi,

We stayed at Royal Plaza. The room is spacious with 2 double bed and we paid around S$ 130 per night. Walking distance to MTR also.

shopping : harbour city (kowloon), causeway bay, time square, pacific place, queensway central

not my preference : mongkok's ladies' street

food : chinese restaurant at The Peak, dinner is best time, followed by the view of HK from Victoria Peak - postcard view; food court style : de coral cafe, maxim ... street food near time square (HK Island), Haiphone Street (Kowloon, near Harbour City / Holiday Inn Golden Mile ....Tang Dynasty for desserts ...糖朝)

watch out for more suggestions from other kiasuparents !
