      Choir qn
      30% of Choir members and 40% of the Band members are girls.There are an equal number of boys in Choir and Band and the number of girls in Choir is 20 more than the girls in Band.How many Choir members are there?

      Table qn
      Someone bought 1 table and 4 chairs with a total amount of $945.The cost of a chair is 2/7 of the table.How much is the table?

      How to solve choir / band qn ?
      Algebra method ?

      Using equivalent fractions.

      70/100 Choir = 60/100 Band
      7/10 Choir = 3/5 Band
      21/30 Choir = 21/35 Band

      Choir: Band
      30:35

      Choir girls: 9u
      Band girls: 14u
      Difference: 14u - 9u = 5u
      5u -> 20
      1u -> 20÷5=4
      30u-> 30 x 4 = 120[/quote] :goodpost:

                    ZhenghuaParent:
                    I thought the Band and Choir question should be like this instead?

                    70% of Band members and 60% of Choir members are girls. There is an equal number of boys in Band and Choir. There are 20 more girls in Band than Choir. How many members are there in Band?
                    100%-70%=30%
                    100%-60%=40%
                    30%=3/10
                    40%= 4/10

                    3/10 of Band members = 4/10 of Choir members
                    = 12/40 of Band members = 12/30 of Choir members

                    Band has 40 Units of members and Choir has 30 Units of members.

                    70% X 40 Units = 28 Units of Girls in Band
                    60% X 30 Units= 18 Units of Girls in Choir

                    28 Units - 18 Units= 10 Units
                    10 Units -> 20
                    1 Unit=20/10
                    1Unit = 2
                    Number of Band members
                    = 40 Units
                    =40 X 2
                    =80

                    I agree with you.
