Slmkhoo, your DD is rare. Not many students like all 3 Sciences.
Me, for instance! I was so happy after my O levels when I could drop all the sciences! I would have wanted to drop Maths as well, but didn't have enough subjects left to make 4 since Geog/Hist together was strongly discouraged. I can only conclude that she doesn't have my genes in this area! -

But surely the amount of content in the contrasting subject, eg Econs, is just as much? In my time, before the contrasting subject requirement, Maths + 3 sciences was a common combination. I don't think there is any 4-subject A level combination that can be termed \"lighter\"!
With the sheer amt of content in jc sciences, one probably won't want to take all 3 sciences in jc.slmkhoo:
Assuming that a student has not particular preference for any course, I think that Chem is more often a prerequisite course than Physics. If the student already know what he wants, then that makes the choice easier. My daughter decided against FMaths the moment she realised that it reduced her to just 1 science - she has no idea what she wants to do, and is already grumbling about not being able to keep all 3 sciences. -

During the olden days, taking double maths, phy and chem or double maths, phy and econs, was common.
A level is much, much tougher than O level.
None of the exam is easy, otherwise it wont be called an exam. -

Yes, I agree. That's why I'm saying that a triple science+Maths combination at A level is probably no worse than a Maths+2 sciences+contrasting subject combination.slmkhoo:

Am quite a clumsy person and during my time, doing double maths saved me from handling practical.
Those doing bio, chem, phy & maths were super smart.
Back to the current situation, I dont think there is any subject combi could be termed as an easier option in terms of workload.
Perhaps, parents can share on this aspect, pls?
Thank you. -
The amt of content taught in jc now is quite different from our time, which is more than 20 years ago. It not uncommon to hear students dropping to 3H2 even in the top jcs.

My husband says that H2 Maths now is easier than in our time (early 80s). He hasn't looked at the new FMaths syllabus yet as neither of my daughters is taking it, and he hasn't been asked to tutor anyone. I find that the Lit and Geog syllabi are not any heavier (they seem lighter, actually, based on what my daughter is doing) than in my time. And it was not uncommon for students to take 3 H2s in my time in the top JCs. -

But now the trend in top JCs is to take 4H2.
