Hi Parents of P1 students, in today’s English spelling, the word "jigaree" appears twice in the spelling list. Is this an useful word? Or is there even such a word in the English context? What is the meaning? Why are our children learning it when there are other more important vocabulary words to be taught. Can anyone share your thoughts. Thank you.

It's a fictional character, probably part of the stellar stories they are learning.

But still… What’s the point of testing it twice. As if it can be used in compo writing…

If the spelling list is based on the story that they have just learned, it's not surprising that its main character will appear in the sentence dictation.

If it bothers you so much, why don't you just ask the teacher or the HOD?

Just like if they are learning the story about Goldilocks, I won’t be surprised if Goldilocks appear in the spelling. She’s the main character, so naturally, everything will revolve around her. It may not be necessary for composition, but that’s what they learned at that time. It’s also to help cater to weaker pupils who can remember names but can’t remember how to spelling ‘swimming’.

Spelling shouldn’t be confined to just verbs and nouns. Names are just as important. Just think if later in life and you need to quote a story or a person and you spelled Einstein as Einstain. Cannot right? Don’t be so rigid lah. It’s part of learning and it’s just one name.

Hi, need assistance from mummies who send your kiddos to APS... Can't find much academic info while googling and though and more hands on opinion would be much better. Is Anderson primary comparable to Saint Nicks, in terms of education standard and quality of teachers? :thankyou:

Does anyone know which are the best two P5 classes? Is it the same every year -5.2 & 5.3?
What kind of results will qualify for best 2 classes? Thanks 🙂

Top 40 go to 5.2 n next better 40 go to 5.3, I suppose… But I heard this year not many band 1 in English,am not sure if it’s true tho…
