I feel property can be an investment, but it shouldn’t be your first and only hope (banking all your savings on one property hoping it’ll return). As with most investments, there is a risk involved… By now we know owning property as a sure way to riches may not be true for everyone… It’s just that we always think landlord very shiok keep collecting money 😕

I disagree about property being a good retirement investment.

Those who purchased private property in 2007 is crying now. They have not even break even.
        hi hophlng

i agree with you that those who bought private property in 2007/2008 may not have break even now.

But if you have holding power, prices of private property in SG will definitely go up in the long run.
if you plot the URA price index from 1970 ~ 2015, it is in a uptrend slope.

once again, it has a pre-condition: you must have holding power for properties.

Would any average parents sell their flat and use up all their limited financial resources in order to fund their child for an overseas university education in medicine?

                But wouldn't this be like \"Show Hand\", a great gamble ? when it's going to be a hand-to-mouth issue?

If they are not too old, probably they want to continue to work and if lucky can rebuild their finances again…

Things that some parents willing to do for their children are amazing…

my concern abt investing in a private property is it is illiquid and not that easy to change to cash when urgently required.

Safest is to have spare cash to invest in properties, otherwise, it is very risky.

if you have spare cash it means you are not commiting to this goal. if you are not committed then how do you build up such a VAST amount since it is likely going to cost more than your primary dwelling?
