Hi all, my DD will be going to P1 next year. Can I know how long will be the P1 orientation? And what to expect at the orientation? Thanks.

          breezie80,

children will arrive and gather at sch hall w their class. The teacher will then bring them to their classroom for English/Chinese lesson while parents will continue to listen to teacher’s talk. There’s also recess session where kids go buy their food, while parents are around.

For english lesson, usually the teacher will go through big book reading and ask them question. For Chinese, they go through some games/self intro w teacher.
After that will be parents to join class session watch the teacher mingle w kids.

How fast you can leave sch, depends on how fast you finish buying books & uniform.

I "cheated" a bit, and go queue for books while leaving hb with the talk. So you take note of the book sale start time.

                Breezie80, another tip for you

For day 1 of school, parents need to leave after hearing some talk and will not be allowed in sch compound.

So the trick here, is to join PSG for classroom volunteer.
You may not be assigned to your dc class (u can try request), but you might be able to "snake out" to check your child during their recess. This yr, 1st 3 days there were psg volunteers for all the class. I managed to do Day1 for other class n Day3 for my gal’s class as per her request. It’s fun to get to know her friends.

During orientation, do visit psg booth to pass them your contacts. (I’m not an active member, but I really enjoyed my time volunteering in the sch, in fact this yr I only managed to go for Day1&3 of sch and Children’s day)

This yr, the psg setup WA grp be4 sch start, and request parents to volunteers. So its impt to drop your contact to psg booth during orientation.
