We stay in punggol and the school bus comes about 6am.

Would like to check if any mommies who sent their boys to the in-house student care can share their view on the centre in terms of the environment, teachers' calibre and the programs?

Understand that the student care will be using existing P1 classrooms which is not air-conditioned. Wonder what will be the arrangement during the time when the haze is in unhealthy level.

I am thinking of sending my boy there but have some concerns on the comfort level of the environment for him to rest well and get refreshed after school hours.

Any advice is appreciated.

I am concerned about the environment as well. I understand that there are no shower facilities and the boys can only freshen up after they have their lunch in the canteen. I am worried about their well being which is being cooped up in the classroom almost the entire day.

Any feedback from parents whose boys are currently with MSHS' student care would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know the following, would like to prepare myself and hear from you:
1. what happens to the students who fall behind in their internal tests and work? how does the school help these children not fall behind? how does the school not tear a child’s self esteem in that respect. what happens if my child happens to be that one who cannot cope and the rest excel? I do not wish to send my kid to extra classes if possible.

2. what are the disciplinary actions toward bullying of a student? how does the school ensure that the bully and the bullied walk away feeling safe and good about themselves?

3. homework. what is the school’s stand on this? are the teachers working together to plan a weekly schedule, so as not to overload the child? or are they just dumping homework independently on the child? what are the average hours clocked daily for each subject for homework?

4. how does learning happen? what is the balance of classroom teaching, exploration, worksheets, experimentation, encouragement of thought challenge?

5. methods of assessments. is it purely tests on paper or are they adapting activity stations or hybrid?

6. mathematics. known to be notoriously different. ask for examples of problem sums from P1 thru 6. be very careful to read them and understand what they ask of the child.

7. mandarin. what kind of immersion program do they have other than textbooks?

8. non academic areas. are there equal opportunities given to every student who desire to join any cca they desire? or do they have to have a pre-requisite before joining? what are the real hours to be clocked for each cca? how will that interfere with the student’s downtime and homework?

9. How is the student care centre?

10. I called the school but basically they dont aloow vissitors and I would like to see the school for myself. Any way around it?

My DS is the student care. The experience is positive, and my son enjoys. The center will check the students did their homework, and also give them extra exercise. They also schedule time for students to play outdoor or indoor board games. Except next year they will move to the primary school compound and no more air-con room.

Need help on the P5 streaming in MS. Is P5 A the top class, followed by P5 B , then C etc…? how the system works as I understand that MS only start to stream students by results in P5 onwards ?
