The school will provide the notes and worksheet/booklet for maths and geo.

DS will be going to SJI - Sec 1 in 2016.
Can I check with existing SJI parents:
1. What is the literature textbook that they will be using in Sec 1 (IP)?
2. Are the kids allowed to choose 3 Science subjects in Year 3?
3. What is the passing mark to be promoted each year?
4. Any suggestion on how we can prepare for Secondary 1 will be appreciated.
Thanks -
Oh, is there a SJI parents social media group?

May I know is it advisable to get a printer in which the kid come to Sec 1? Many assignment that requires a lot of printing?

This HMT/MT issues is quite confusing but it will be clearer as your son starts schools. To put in simply :Just want to check any of the kids is taking HMT in SJI? By taking HMT the child is it have to take the O level paper at Sec 3? Once this is completed does it mean Year 5 do not have to take Chinese anymore as in the IB phase.
Lastly if the child could not perform to the performance requirement, any option to drop & taking back the normal MT?
Your child is in IP(IB). He can take either MT or HMT.
Due to MOE MT policy, even IBDP student must take Cambridge O level language paper.
If your child is taking HMT, he takes this Cambridge O level paper in Sec 3.
If your child is taking MT, he takes this paper in Sec 4.
JC1&JC2 years, ie, year 5 & 6, IBDP structure requires a language component.
See slide 16&17 for your son's year 5 & 6 options, depending on his score for the HMT/MT paper exam :

School will keep explaining to parents and boys about this, so not to worry too much. Yes, there are boys that dropped from HMT to MT, mostly at the end of Secondary 2. -

Noticed that the Maths Text for Sec 1 the book list put as optional. Experienced parents could advise whether should we also buy? Also no Geography textbook, is the school given some kind of school notes?
We bought Sec 1 Optional Maths textbook. Never used at all so from Sec 2 onwards did not buy.
School will give out notes for both Maths and Geography as Kafer replied earlier.
No need to search for suitable Geography materials from the market as they have own syllabus so no books match. -

Q2 : triple science in year 3. Is your child in IP ? Yes, there is triple science class but bear in mind due to IBDP structure, he would be at most be pursuing 2 of the Science subjects at JC level. -

For my son's case, yes there was indeed a lot. We bought laserjet b&w printer.
