How to encourage our children to be more independent
-
Yes. As long as your kid can manage, why not?

Frequent hp usage supposedly not good for kiddo and some kids gets glued to sms, games or chatting with friends which parents feel is distracting.
Heng for my DS, so far so good. He is not keen on the above just yetโฆ so will just monitor. -
My P1 girl also has been using my old handphone, with a prepaid phone card, since the beginning of the year. But I don't allow her to bring to school. She told me that she knows her friends' phone number, but those are all their mommies' number ! So I said she cannot call them. She only calls me or her Daddy when we are at work. I like to sms her and read her replies, it is quite fun. She also likes to take photos using the hp, and I think that is absolutely fine. In fact, her Daddy let her use the digital camera to take photos since she was 5 years old
I feel safer to let her use my old hp because it does not spoil when dropped.
In fact, I have even created a gmail account for her
I am surprised that her English name and surname is already not available as an email address ! -

yeah maybe cause whenever my DS1 wanna take my phone he will clicking unnecessary pictures listen to music and I feel not so good
:offtopic:
LKVM, same to my DS1 too
, recently DS2 too, request for my phone to watch lion dance video (his favourite is lion dance).... DS1 requests to play game, not listening to songs or music, BUT i said only can watch video. So 2 of them will take turns to watch their favourite videos in my HP. Mostly are capture of different types of lion dance & their concert performances.

jus curious, if your kids didn't do her homework, did not submit her homework etc, is this the fault of the kids, (say P2 onwards, as maybe some P1 not much homework) or the fault of the parents, for not monitoring and make sure they finish their hw. What is your view on this?
Not me la   ....she. She is in control of her own academic life at this point. Can't say this is forever though....update you at P6.lovekidsverymuch:

At P1 the workload and checks still manageable, I do try to let go but still end up going thru his schoolbag โฆ โฆ
From DS feedback, I think teachers are used to extremes. He tells of friends with missing stuffs and homework daily as well as those who does more than required. -
