Comparing English Enrichment Programmes
-
I am enrolling kiddo (k2 next year) for additional english class with TLL. He is now with Lorna (english enrichment) and ICR. Lorna stirred his passion for reading, which I am grateful for. ICR taught him to pronounce the words. Both complemented well. But I felt his grammar is still lacking. Personally, I like Lorna because the teachers are passionate. Unfortunately, the teacher to student ratio is 1:12 which is why I feel that kiddo is not able to pick up as much. So I am trying out TLL in Dec to make comparisons. … Sometimes, i just wonder if i am going overboard. I am trying to find a suitable school as early as possible, so as to minimise the disruptions when kiddo enters P1…

Any advice pls.
You can consider Lcentral as well, it is also located in Jurong East near the MRT station.
U can send your child for assessment before deciding.

Hi kain, can pm me the centre name and location too. I have one p3 boy next year. :thankyou:karinchung:
Dear parents. I am writing in response to the PM which I have received recently. Many of you have Pmed me regarding a post I have posted many many months ago and many of you have been asking me if my dd is still studying there.
My dds have been with the centre since two years ago. One of them who is in P6 last year did pretty well to enable her to get into IP programme in CHIJ. Thus, without any hesitation I continued with the centre for Ms Estelle helped me to push my dd up from a mere 50 plus 60 to scoring A* in PSLE.
My personal view on the centre which I have recommended would be that it is a centre suitable for parents who are looking for really delicate teachers instead of a famous centre. So far, parents there have been discussing while waiting for our dd and what I have heard are all good feedbacks. This is why, I have no hesitation recommending the centre to you as. As a parents, I truly know how \"messed up\" the current education system is and with the new stellar unit it is literally impossible for us to guide our children as they only get back their file a week before exams and I know it is frustrating as I have been through it.
I have also received Pmed telling me that the location of the centre is not accessible and that the slots are full. I hope to gain your understanding that I sent my dd there for the sake of her education. I do not drive and I have been walking from the AMK Hub to the centre for years now but I guess to individual parents it is different. As for the slot being full, I have been told since I started that they talk in maximum of only 8 students. Thus, i apologized to those whom trusted me but was disappointed by the slots issues.
I believe there are good teachers in every centre. Thus, as parents we should look at not the centre but the teachers.
hi karin, can you PM me the centre name and location.
Thanks! -

Can anyone give me your views about TLL and LP? How different are they in terms of materials and curriculum? And what your preference and why? :thankyou:

My daughter concurrently attended both TLL and LP English for almost half year when she was in K2. She preferred TLL as she found it more challenging.
JMHO:
TLL is more like enrichment than tuition. That is, you are quite sure that your child has a good grasp of English and you send your child to TLL so that he/she could be stretched further. I have seen students attending TLL but had to quit as they were not able to cope or see no improvement for the high fees paid.
LP more conventional. Is more of a tuition than an enrichment. Their worksheets are systematic and provides a good foundation in English. -

Thank you for your feedback, this is exactly what I wanted to find out. We have been with LP for 2 years since K1 and although we are very grateful to LP for teaching ds to read, I feel it is now time to move on. I found their last year's worksheets a tad too routine and drilling. Hence, I started to have these thoughts of late. Thank you for your prompt advice :thankyou:littleprince:

Hi,
My DS is weak in close passage and comprehension. Does LP teach them on that? My DS cannot sit still. He hates drilling or routine work, any tuition centre or tutor can handles that? -

LP does cover cloze and comprehension but i feel it can be quite routine because they are trying to build foundation. If your DS cant sit still, he may not enjoy the lessonHi,
