Good idea for the matching…but I guess you got to have quite a big amount in order to talk right.

Actually sometimes they can 'match' the FD rate of another bank one, I tried to ask twice, was successful once only though. Told them I am withdrawing to put in another bank, so they agreed to renew at the same rate of the other bank after the branch manager approved. That was close to one year ago though.

I have never tried this trick at all.

Happened to my mum too. We were there placing FD and mentioned in passing that she would be transferring the balance to other banks. The officer immediately offered promo rate for to keep funds with them.

HLF rates have always been better than banks n they have a strong customer base - the aunties and uncles who are cash rich n believe in FDs. So they don't bother to look for businesses. Furthermore, they don't hv relationship managers to hard sell their products.

My mum recently renewed her FD at HLF and was given a rate slightly below the promo using her existing funds.

HLF is giving a glass container for the current FD as advertised in its website.

I have collected quite a number of their freebies over the years.

Do note that one needs to compensate them $50 for every container one takes should one terminates the FD prematurely.

I think maybank allows you to go any of its branches (tbc)

                        Hi starlight,

                        Happy new year!
Actually for HLF, renewal can only be done at the same branch but complete withdrawal can be done at any branch ( just did this half a year ago). Over the years I realise HLF free gift is not as nice as the previous ones in my personal opinions. I remember Maybank ever give out a simple coffee machine and vacuum cleaner before if I recall correctly.

For standard chartered, they will close the FD account once you withdraw. Most banks keep the FD account alive still. I tried asking sc once why this practice but they only told me top down instruction. Not sure why, maybe the bank does not want to maintain a long list of dormant FD account.

I’m waiting for the next wave of CNY FD promotion. So far the trend has been boc will give a can of new moon abalone and UOB will give a plaque.
