Hi freestyler898,
I’m also along Sixth Avenue. The bus operator has just informed me that pick-up for my child will be at 625am. She will be the first few to be picked up. Have you heard from them yet?

Hi Xuanting,
Yes they have confirmed pickup for my child at 6.20am as part of Bus Route No. 33 to school & No. 31B on the way home. I’m guessing you are picked up by a different bus route as your pickup time is slightly later than ours even though we are also one of the first few to board the bus. Our residence (although only a few minutes walk off 6th avenue) is nestled inside Queen Astrid/Coronation Road West vicinity so it’s likely bus route no. 33 doesn’t actually travel down 6th avenue but through the small residential roads.
Do you mind if I ask how much you are being charged per month? We are paying $130 (which is around $5 outside the guided range even after applying the max. 10% excess amount mentioned in their T&C handout). Honestly, that’s hardly surprising as we all know these operators will never hesitate to charge you the max. amount they’re entitled to! At the end of the day, a few dollars difference isn’t mammoth however as far as we have heard/seen so far, their etiquette is also far from satisfactory.
As you parents are all undoubtedly aware, the pickup times are especially early (despite our close vicinity) so that the SSTA buses can take up more jobs after dropping off the children. In our case, the school bus will reach school at around 6.40am. In all likelihood when you probe them, they will simply point to traffic as the "sole reason" when it’s obvious profitability from squeezing 2 jobs in early morning probably tops the list.
I am sure there are many parents (like myself) who’s feeling frustrated with the early pickup times & yet not left with many options due to SSTA being the sole contractor.
In any event, I feel that it really helps in these forums to share our thoughts (even though some may disagree to a certain extent) as we parents can then unite to make our voices heard by the school/SSTA if and when necessary.
Thanks for everyone’s inputs. -
Bus operator quoted me $168/ mth for 2 way from Shelford. Seriously?
-
Bus No. 12.
But we decided not to take early bus. Daddy drop her in the morning. Grandpa fetch her by MRT+bus in the afternoon. Is it reasonable? -
Am at mount Sinai, bus operator quoted $160 for two way and pick up time is 6.10am. Will try out for a few weeks and see.
-
We were quoted $230 for two way from woodlands, pickup at 5.25am.
If my gal was older I would have asked her to take the MRT so she can get more sleep. -

I also heard rumors that school is going to start a Student Care centre. Is this true?
Any priorities set for application?
Please pity those working parents without domestic helpers or parents or in laws in helping to take care of the kids after school.

[/quote]mmm... samsung77.. where does the rumour came from (school staff ??)?? i know of a couple of mommies who too are hoping, there'll be such centre set up within the campus. since the single-session school hours begins as early as before (i.e 2-sessions), working parents aren't able to match their work hours to the dropping & picking of their gals.
hopefully this will materialize soon :xedfingers: :xedfingers: -
