GLORYmum:
May I know what subjects are offered in a hybrid combination in JC ?
Hybrid combi will differ in different JCs.
For reference, Science n Maths subjects fall into Science stream. All other subjects fall under Arts stream.
So you can select 2 of ea from each stream.
My DD took hybrid combi but it's not popular. -
Edit : compulsory subjects in hci are GP, hcl and PW.

My suggestion is to attend the JC Open Houses n pose your questions to the teachers there. -
Hii ! May I ask if my Daughter is taking this combination - H2 Economics, Math and Chemistry. H1 geography. Does this falls under science, arts or hybrid ? If it’s hybrid, when she submits her final decision online, does she put as arts or science course ? And if she did not do well for chemistry ( B4, pure chemistry ) is it still okay to take H2 chemistry in jc ? Will she suffer or anything ? Thank you !

If you have more than 3 units of Science subjects, then you are considered as Sci stream. If you go to the Arts stream, you cannot take the combi you have stated.
Based on your choice, you have 4 units of Science (2 for H2 Math, 2 for H2 Chem).
It is not permissible to switch stream within JCs.
Hence, you should be choosing the Science stream in your option. -

Indeed, in today's world where there are so many choices, it would be better to go with the heart. Honestly, 2 years will pass very quickly, so why not make the most of it and feel happy, rather than feel all miserable and then pass the two years like a zombie.
I am ex-Rafflesian, however I would say to go with ACSI.esme38:
Hi parent and students,
My girl from SCGS is very happy. Secured 7 points before bonus points. She thought she will not fare so well. She prefers ACSI. I prefer RI which is nearer home. Please advise.
Reasons:
1) Number one reason is your daughter herself prefers ACSI. Nowadays JC life is very stressful and I do have a few ex-students who mention that they are quite depressed at school. Hence, why not choose a school where your daughter will be happier?
2) IB program is much easier to score as one is competing against the Western countries where it is well known that students there don't study as hard as Singaporeans.
This statistic that >50% top students come from Singapore: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/e ... from-spore
3) Coming from RI (last time RJC), I can vouch that the teachers there are nothing \"special\" compared to other JCs. They are not bad, but really nothing extraordinary. In fact, RI notes may be harder to understand since they teach a lot of \"extra\" stuff that are outside the syllabus, which is good for general knowledge, but bad if the student is already struggling in the basic material. I do know that many top students in NUS are sent to mid/low tier JCs to teach, hence mid tier JC teachers can be indeed on par with elite JC teachers.
4) RI girls (those who come from RGS) tend to have a outspoken and assertive personality, focusing on leadership and sports, and can be competitive. Naturally, RGS girls will form a clique together. (There are exceptions of course, this is my personal observation from being in the school.) Your daughter may find difficulty finding friends if she is a quiet and introvert type.
That being said, if your daughter is the leadership/sports and well-rounded type (i.e. very strong in both academics and CCA), RI will be a good fit for her.
This is just my very honest feedback, hope it helps.
If we are talking about whether the IB or A levels is better, it is really relative. They are different systems, period. not one better than the other. How do you even measure or compare?
During my day I was fortunate to have a happy problem, to be torn between R and H. In the end, I went to H, because I wanted to pursue Higher Chinese. R has a brilliant culture in my opinion but I think I wouldn't have been able to fulfill my potential that much for Higher Chinese.
Hope this helps! -
Hi everyone!
I got a raw point of 10 and a nett point of 8 this year.
I am entering the science stream bc I do not enjoy the art stream althou history will be my exception … i love history
Im very conflicted by my parents as they want me to enter ajc. However, I heard abt their killer maths papers.
I got A1 for emaths and A2 for amaths. Honestly, these results are thanks to my home tutor. I can only afford maths and chem tuition teacher. In jc, im not allowed to be tutored anymore unless its grp tuition. I am really scared that ajc’s maths papers will kill me so badly that it demotivates me thats what my secondary school did to me, i failed my emaths in prelims and c5 amaths
I want to go into sajc badly but there is a distance problem. I stay in Cck and sajc in potong pasir. Its ard a 1hr frm here. I go to secondary school near yck so distance wise I have suffered 4 straight years of this. But potong pasir is far and jc life is supposedly more stress. There are people who are willing to take the mile for it and I myself dont mind. However, my parents are against it, esp if cca ends really late. I prob will enter a less demanding cca and the science course of sajc. I also enjoy the culture there when I went to their open house, in comparison to ajc, although ajc is significantly nearer. I rather be in a school that allows some relax time, bc I can never be someone who can take the ajc culture.
So after considering the distance factor, do you think I should still go sajc? I know of people in cck going there too!
Also, I like a school less focused … on sports. -
SAJC is ok. Make use of travel time to get some reading done. Not wasted time. I guess the mrt ride should be ok
