Update: This is the 3rd week of school. Everything at Pathlight went according to expectation. No surprises. He gets on the school bus himself, finds his way around school and returns on the school bus. That's good enough for me.
The principal briefed us parents to train good habits and to start letting go. I have no problem with the latter. Most of the time I don't know what is happening....just make sure to come home. Over here got 4 kids. Sometimes one missing in the afternoon also dunno.....
His class has 2 teachers to 6 children, which is a bonus. The norm is 2:12. Got my money's worth. More personal attention. Since the teachers so free, maybe can help cut his nails...
Work wise, not very different from mainstream. Have to check his Personal Organizer and Homework file daily. Today his maths homework is 19 pages long. Geez! Can't understand why Sg teachers really like to siao homework. Damn 变态 one. Or rather, MY homework is 19 pages long....sigh!!
On the whole, Pathlight seems very well organized. Can't complain much. But I am Singaporean so it is in my nature to complain. Will find something soon to complain.
Oh Ya, I got for him a Watch Phone. $110+ on Q10. Has a GPS function. I can track him down to the nearest 50 metres. In case he gets lost. I think its great. He can't play games on it like a normal phone (spoil eyes!) and we can communicate in emergences. Have a look at it if you are keen.

But wah! 19pages of homework. My boy’s pri hardly any homework, the first time I saw homework being assigned, I was actually overjoyed! Yes, that’s how 变态 I am too.
For my boy, well first 2 weeks were great. But this week, he met bullies on the school bus. My mum’s helper saw a boy threatening to beat him when they got off the bus together. I was heartbroken. I expected bullies but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon. The boy likely a P2/P3 claimed that my son disturbed him, so I don’t want to jump to conclusion that my boy is not totally at fault. But knowing our ASD kids, their disturb is definitely not intentional and is harmless, so I suspect my son could have rubbed the boy off the wrong way. I took action immediately and told the bus driver to get my son to sit at the front of the bus so that he can monitor.
Other issues that my boy faced so far is slowness, take too long to copy notes from the whiteboard. But I know this can be trained so I am going to work on that with him.
P1 is definitely a great milestone for all of us in this forum, whether in mainstream or Pathlight. More imptly is, our kids are all grown up and is heartening to see them able to get on the right bus, buy food from canteen and return home safely. -

19 pages of homework is incredible! I don’t know the rationale behind such large amount of work??? My NT daughter returns to her church kindergarten to K2 level and suddenly her spelling just got WAY difficult! From single word like ‘one to ten’ in K1 to suddenly full sentence like ‘they go to school together!’ I actually screamed when I got the spelling list! What did the teachers or the school think happen to our darling’s brain during the 2 months’ dec holiday??? The quantum leap is too much for MY brain to understand. Duh… -

Great to hear that your son is doing well in mainstream school with no declaration! I am also toying with this idea but I think it is wishful thinking on my part. I do declare his condition in his pre-school every year when he goes to a higher-level class and declaration do come with certain stigma, sad to say. Haizzz… -

Sad to hear the bully. It is easy to be bullied in school bus. That’s why I try to built a good relationship with bus aunt and uncle. So far, my son sit in the front row and the trip is about 10 mins. As parents like us, must make more effort to minimize the chances they are bullied. For the slow handwriting, some NT also got this problem. In chat group, always got this question. Just practice at home. -

I declared his condition in childcare too. I tried to work together with his teachers on social part. He is lucky, all the teachers did help up. I was tearful when he doing a major part in the graduate concert. Jia You!Couragemom:

Hi parents, my name is James Tan this year 29 i have a boy just hit 3 yrs old. I found out he have poor eyes contact, lack of respond to him name and also some syptoms of autism. I am very freaking worry, went to jurong poly to get a appt at 04 feb for further check up. Can anyone share more about this with me and let me know what should i do and what i can do to help out my child? My wife and me is working and our working hours is long i am regret that i have not much time for my child. My mother is the one taking care of him. I am wondering why he can say thank you, wave and say bye and also can do task like example when i ask him pass hp to my wife or mother he will pass to them, take off own shoe, take off own pant or shorts and also throw stuff to dust bin and also he can read a to z, 1 to 10, shapes and colors when i point to him but he just refuse to communicate to us. I am feeling so lost now and also dont know what to do. Can anyone out here help me?

Don’t despair! It may be hard to believe me now but our special darling will get better with timely intervention over time. Your son hasn’t been diagnosed yet so he may or may not be autistic. When you see the development PD at the hospital, the doctor will assess your son and guide you on the next step (the most common therapies offered will be Speech therapy (ST), Occupational therapy (OT) and eipic (early intervention program).
Take one step at a time. See what the doctor has to say about your son then based on the diagnosis decide on suitable intervention for your son. Take care and stay positive! -
