Actually just heard DPA recently. Also thought of giving it a try. I think it won't be easy too. And really also no clue what to expect for DPA. :?

The details can be found here:
        https://dpa.polytechnic.edu.sg/dpaStudIns/menu.jsp

While current school results are important, DPA selection also comprises interview to gauge applicants' interest in the particular course of study. Past projects (design work, drawings, etc) or personal interests (gamer, pets, etc) would be useful for some courses.

Does your son have an idea what he wants to do in life? If he's uncertain at this point, then going the A level route might be a better option. Don't DPA for DPA sake as the student might regret if he/she does not know what he wants. He might end up disliking the course he applied for.

For students who DPA, they have a better sense of what they want to pursue. Some of my kids' friends have successfully DPA-ed to gerontology studies, animation, early childhood ed, psychology. Students not only must have decent results. They must also show interest in the course they are applying for and have good CCA records.

Chanced on this conversation. My fren kid successfully DPAed to poly. His results weren’t great from Sec 1-3, Sec 4 - he got better cos he started tuition. But he is very keen in the field of study - was head of his school Robotics club and won many prizes. So even though academic results nothing to yap about, he got his CO.

Can’t recall when but I think he was notified of offer before the O’s. After the O’s and before results released, poly asked him to go health screening and dunno what admin matters.

Worth a try if the child is very sure what he/she wants to do. All the best to this year’s O level kids!!

son's results took a turn for the better in sec 3 after he started to mature and with help from tutors.
is CO (confirmed offer) known after O level results?
didn't know there is such a thing as health screening for DPA.

I had impression that CO is given before the O level exams but the precondition is that the child must still clear. Not too sure about the cutoff points in that case.

Yes, very sure cos my fren took off to accompany her son for some health checkup and admin matters. It's probably some simple health check up. In fact, I heard that those under DPA will start school earlier than those who go through via posting - am not sure what is being covered in those days also.

read about some PPP course (polytechnic preparatory program) for those who enter via DPA. O levels still have to clear.

tes clearing O levels is still a must but I am not sure if there is any cut off as is done under dsa for sec schools.

o levels still a must to clear and must get reasonable results even if using DPA.
