        Hi all P1 parents,

A warm welcome to the TGPS community. I was informed by PSG Vice-Chair that this thread is active again and true to her words, I am delighted to see all the exchanges.

P3/P4 parents, welcome back and continued to spread the knowledge to the new parents as I believe many are first time P1, so naturally will be very anxious and concerns on school and child matters.

For those whom are keen to join the PSG Network, do approach school admin and I believe the person-in-charge will be happy to share more updates with all of you.

My 2nd boy is in his final year on TGPS, yes, the dreaded PSLE year but been a 2nd time PSLE parent, I know the school has been and is still preparing our P6-sers to Achieve & Aspire. My eldest girl graduated 2 years ago and is now in Secondary 2.

Looking forward to seeing more TGPS Parents to the community, sharing and learning from one another. To all our Chinese Friends, advanced wishes to a Prosperous Lunar New Year. To all our other ethnic group friends, enjoy the long holidays with your family.

        Cheers,
        Astee

I am a parent of a P5 pupil in TGPS. This year i just found out that there is this school rule about P5 and P6 pupils having to bring a set of uniform to change into after their PE lesson. Being a working parent, this means i need to standby 5 sets of ironed uniforms a week. When i feedback to the school that they should let pupils change into a new set of PE attire instead of the uniform, PE attire being more comfortable in hot and humid Singapore, they don’t seem to be receptive about it and said I’m the first parent to ‘complain’ about this issue. Is my request unreasonable? (Not sure if this is the right place to post this)

Is it the school’s stand or is it just your child’s teacher who says no?

              It is a school rule.

                Hi babyjos,

I shared your sentiment, initially, and after adjusting to the routine. It was manageable. Luckiy higher primary only has ONE PE lesson a week…phew.

The main reason school gave was for the kids to feel comfortable after the change. As been in sweaty and smelly tee-shirt does not goes well for remaining curriculum day. Yes, option to change to another PE attire is definitely a good idea for working parents…keke.

As our P5 and P6 will be joining secondary school soon so training them to change back to school uniforms is a crucial process. Secondary school kids are all required to change back to uniforms after PE. So we parents also need to adjust to the change…fyi, secondary can have 3 or 4 sets of clothings for a day.

I believe school value parents feedback and not all admin or front line are trained to answer every question from parents. So i am not surprised they regard your feedba k as "complaint" as that is what we parents are infamous for…haha. don’t take it personally and we can always share in this network. I believe we have many parents with same problems as we are all in tgps shoes.

Thanks Astee for taking the time to explain the rationale.

My contention is that why must it be the school uniform and not PE attire? Do pupils really need 2 years of ‘trainig’ to get used to it since they will have a full 4 years in secondary school to do it? And our kids have quite proven their adaptability and resilience in the P4 camp, no?

I think the rule stems from the traditional thinking that uniforms are for lessons and PE attire is only for PE. But times have changed. If all secondary schools students (mine didn’t) are indeed required to change into uniforms after PE, maybe it is time to rethink the policy. Even for working adults, many companies adopt casual Fridays.

In the age where we are required to be creative and critical thinkers, is sticking to what-has-been a wise decision? Can we tell our children that they just have to do it, no matter how impractical and uncomfortable it may be, even though there could be an alternative, just because it is a rule?

                    :goodpost:

Indeed, change is constant and we just need to keep asking and one day - it will be granted. 😄

All the best as mine is final year so I have no bargaining chip, the next generation can put in more voices and it will be heard.

                    Happy New Year!!!

                    Cheers,
                    astee
