      hi ganjiongspider,

Based on the latest \"Parents Meet Tr\" meeting held in January 2016 recently, whereby Principal flashed on the overhead projector last year (2015) PSLE results, Yes, we parents saw clearly the %tage of 2015 P6 students who made it back successfully into our Secondary GCE \"O\" level track (ie. %tage scored above 230) for 2016 Secondary 1, as well as also another percentage who did not make it to St Nick for O level (ie. %tage scored below 230).
For the latter group : the girls were posted by MOE under S1 posting, to some other Secondary schools for O level / N level, instead.

was expecting to hear that majority of pupils from the Top three P6 classes scored 250 and above, at Psle. Thus, was a bit taken aback to hear that got students scored 217 ( low), from these few Top classes.

      if score below 230 :
one unable to go back to our affliated Secondary school, for \"O\" level track.

      below 230 :
also cannot appeal to go back to our affliated Secondary, with the latest recent MOE announcement in Dec 2015 that NO appeal entertained, if student do not meet Cut off point.
(be it the Official Cut off point at 25x for outsiders (ie. non-affliates), Or the Affliation Cut off point for affliated pupils, at 230)

      http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/e ... ch-schools

school will try her best to maintain at 230 (for affliation COP) for your daughter's batch (born 2005), unless pressurized one day from the Top (by MOE) to increase by another x number of points up beyond 230, OR unless the new Banding PSLE system start to kick in soon, although not sure affecting from which batch of students onwards, since MOE had not officially announced anything yet, to the public.

But, since your daughter P5 (born 2005), her batch wont be affected, as she going to sit for PSLE next year (2017 P6).
      But, children born in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 onwards ... hard to say.

Once this new Banding PSLE system kick in, the affliation Cut-off-point at 230 : won't work anymore. 230 become obsolete, once the new Banding PSLE criteria sets in, overhaul the current T-score system.

        Hi Greenbird,

I did not refer to St Nick lah. I mean i know some of my friends’ kids from other schools who have always perform very well during P1 to P6, have shocked us with their low-performing grades for their PSLE. Anyway, just share the information with the parents here. P.S *** Nothing in particular though.

            hi ganjiongspider,

Sorry I interpreted, wrongly. My apology.

Noted your point, it is not St Nick, after clarification. Thanks.

for the new PSLE banding system that will be implemented, soon one day (wef from ? batch), MOE have yet to inform & brief the public (parents + students), who wish to know following :

              - for popular, affliated primary Full schools like SCGS / St Nick / MGS / Catholic High / Maris Stella, etc, how does the "affliation Band" work ?

discounted points still exist inside the Band, or eliminated ?
if still exist, how many maximum discounted points ?
1 point, 2 point, or max 3 point, discounted ?

              - for Cca, how many points given : for Sports / Performing Arts / Club / Uniform group, each of these different category ?

MOE haven't release anymore info I'm quite sure. Also, I doubt it would be by category, since they changed it for O level. It's more of like participation and all.

                  Greenbird,

You are right! Banding to which classes are according to the total aggregate score for all subjects. So, even though one student can score full marks for Math & Science (Top students may not able to garner full marks for all subjects), but did not score well for other subjects, will pull down her total aggregate score. In the end, it is the Total Aggregate Score of all subjects decide their fate. A few decimal points, even 0.01 is very competitive in the 1st class, don't even need to mention that some students lose the few decimal points even to get into 3rd Top class. U see, it is very very competitive. But please don't be disheartened if your gal are in MA class, or don't even be so pleased first if they are in the 1st 3 Top Class. Coz in the end, it is still whether the students can score in their PSLE counts the most. I have seen alot of students getting to Top class, scoring good results in the exam, but sadly, score badly for their PSLE--I mean really badly, like 217, instead of 230-240 suppose to be if based on their P6 Prelim results. So, what can I say? I always believe: \"Success is not Final, Failure is not the End. It is the courage to continue that counts\".
                  Totally agree with you, ganjiongspider.

In the three MA (P3) classes (out of Total 6 P3 classes) :
the students are allocated into MA classes at end of P2, because these students happen to be very strong in 2 subjects (instead of all 3).
They only weak, in 1 particular subject.
(be it weak in English / Maths / Higher Chinese)

That is why in the three P3 MA classes beginning Term 1 (January) :
school quickly form special \"pull-out\" (very small group) classes, in P3 English / Maths / Higher Chinese, so as to rescue & help them improve quickly, in whichever one subject that they happen to be weak in. This is a good wise, strategic move by our school CHIJ St Nicholas primary, to help strengthen the weak ones, fast. (don't delay further)

in fact, for each of these P3 MA classes :
usually only a single digit number of students had been identified, to form these special \"pull-out\" classes, per weak subject.
(usually less than 6 students, per weak subject identified, per P3 MA class).

rest of the remaining students (Total got 40 pupils, per P3 class) :
need not attend \"pull-out\" lesson, if they not been identified, at end of P2 Year end exam.

find most of the students, even in the MA class : very competitive !
                  (agree with you)

                    hi StillThinking,

so far, there wasn't any recent update coming from MOE, confirming when MOE intend to turn PM vision into reality.

                    http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/ps ... ven-grades

maybe the new Education Minister is still doing a feasibility study.

But, you are a Secondary 1 student this year (2016), at St Nick Secondary.
so you not affected (since had already passed PSLE last year 2015 batch), unless you've a younger sister, currently studying inside St Nick primary ?

With reference to below article dated back 3 years ago in 2013, whereby it state that may take a few years to implement the new Psle Banding system -

parents who intend to transfer their daughters into St Nick primary, anytime from end of P2 to end of P4 (note : Transfer into St Nick not allowed in P5) , at end of this year (2016) :
take note that if u are seeking Transfer because of the affiliation discount advantage, situation can change, since none of us officially been informed by Moe , wef from which batch of kids this New Psle Banding system start to kick in. The new Education Minister have yet to announce detail, to public.

                      http://m.todayonline.com/singapore/psle ... ven-grades

also note that P1 : usually no vacancy arise.
Vacancies tend to arise, at end of P2, onwards.
