They are almost adults, so they should decide how much they can tolerate. My rule of thumb for my kids would be under 1 hr each way. But some are willing and able to tolerate more travelling time.

DDs have seniors who travel from Chua Chu Kang to VJC and from Punggol to ACJC. Travelling time is more than an hour per trip.

So many new topics introduced too. Teachers must be well-versed in the changes or the pupils will suffer in their grades as there are no precedented 10-yrs-series questions to guide them.

DS is affected. Only hope that since it's the first year of change for A levels, examiners will be more lenient.

                🙏

My daughter is also affected. It means that mugging will be less effective, and will take a load off the kids!

                    - There always exist disparity of teaching skills in different schools and with the presence of bell curve, chances are some schs will excel while others dip and further widen the grades' gap.

-So true. Application of facts and critical thinking is the essence now.

I am not too sure if it will be a load off the students.

Applications are much more difficult than theory based. The smart ones will have no problems analyzing n apply but I think the lower tier JC students will suffer.

Furthermore, this is the first batch who will take A levels, they have nothing to fall back to see what is the trend n type of questions that will be asked.

There is a sample paper given to all schools as a reference. New syllabus doesn’t mean all the questions are entirely new. In fact for math, the new syllabus is more or less recycled from the old syllabus.

As far as local university admission is concerned, it is all about the ranking of students rather than the absolute grades. Lenient marking may not be good as you will see plenty of As around and soon many courses require straight As or almost straight As to enter.
