2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

Ca3kids:
I called one of the DSA school and ask this question, the staff say if PSLE result is better and want to enroll another better school, it depend on the \"better\"school whether accept the student. If the student is accepted and the DSA school will release upon principal's approval (but normally will release as if a student don't want them, they also won't force). This is what I learnt from the staff. But later I saw somewhere in web that you cannot reject the DSA school once they give you a confirm place.
You would have \"accepted\" the DSA offer before the PSLE is out.......am I wrong ??verykiasu2010:
Anyone can advise if a student is selected by a school during DSA selection but then PSLE marks is much better when released. Can this student choose another better school and reject the offer from DSA school?
I am not clear on the DSA part.
Most schools with DSA process would spell out what is required of parent / student after the schools have made the offer at the end of the DSA exercise
That is why I am puzzled on this as I am not clear on the DSA procedure
If you know the principal, they would tell you directly that some parents are very \"dishonourable\" and play dirty in asking for transfer. Ya, u cannot force the student to go where s/he does not \"want\" to go.
Why in the first place went for the DSA and wasted the time and resources of the school if not sure about wanting to get into that school?....and yet treating them as not good enough and going for \"better\" one when the result is much better ? -
Ca3kids:
If you accept the DSA offer, your kid will not be able to participate in S1 posting. So he/she has to appeal to the school he wants to go after the S1 posting results are out.Anyone can advise if a student is selected by a school during DSA selection but then PSLE marks is much better when released. Can this student choose another better school and reject the offer from DSA school?
I am not clear on the DSA part.
There is no guarantee he can go to the appealed school even if his PSLE score may above the COP of the school. So far I have seen a few cases in 2009 (2010 sec 1) and most of them have been successful in their appealing. But please be prepared for the \"stressful\" period while waiting for the appealed result. -

There're parents who wrote about their successful appeal for transfer in this thread. So I guess, you need patience to go thru the many pages here plus loads of persistence to chase after the schools!

Hi there, can someone advise if it is necessary to get testimonials from the school teacher (eg form teacher or CCA teacher) for submission for DSA application? Is the testimonial of any help, or just certificates will do? Many thanks in advance. :?

Hi, my child is thinking of not continuing her secondary education in a secondary school affiliated to her primary school, and she want to apply DSA via sports in other schools. For example if she is not successful in the DSA application, will she be given the priority for admission to her affiliated school in S1 posting? Many thanks!
Cheers! -

S1 posting is based purely on merit : ranking of PSLE scoresHi, my child is thinking of not continuing her secondary education in a secondary school affiliated to her primary school, and she want to apply DSA via sports in other schools. if DSA has not been successful and no offers from any sec schools, then it is the same as normal S1 posting, put down your 6 choices and keep your fingers crossed -

Thanks OngMum…I came across this thread and found it really useful. Is there anyone who has gone through the DSA process, able to share if testimonials does help eg for schools like RGS/NYGH…I am beginning to wonder if the schools will diligently read through the stack of certificates/letters submitted or they just browse through the portfolio summary, and rely more on interview, etc.

I believe the DSA testimonials are useful
There is a school where 33% of the cohort gets offer via DSA -- the form teachers have been busy since term one to get ready the testimonial especially for those students who are expected to apply via DSA.
