Hi Cat high parents, may I know at which level does the school offer swimming lessons for the children? My son has level 2 swimsafer certification. Does this mean he can skip level 1 and 2 and move directly to level 3 in school? Appreciate if anyone can advise. :thankyou:

Hi , anyone knows?

CHS has compulsory SwimSafer lessons during curriculum time (during their PE periods) in P3. (I think it only started recently because my P5 boy did not encounter this when he was in P3.) Their PE teachers will bring them to Bishan swimming complex where they will have swimming lessons and then bring them back to school during school hours. The boys are exempted only if they have achieved SwimSafer Gold. We had to submit photocopy of the certificate (of the highest SwimSafer level attained) to their teachers as proof. Those who have already attained a certain stage will move on to the next stage. So yes, your son who has Stage 2 certificate will move on to Stage 3.
This is great, thank you very much for your advice! Because we stopped our swimming lessons and looking forward to learning it during school hours! :boogie:

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can share with me the chances of entering the school if we stay within 1km?

Any student care in the school as well?

Thanks in advance!

Any existing parents of CHS students here?

How are the teachers? Are they caring?

christelite :
Chance is low if you are not an alumni. CHS needs to ballot even for those staying within 1km, starting from phase 2b.
Historically it is difficult to get into, pure luck for those who are not old boys.

Student care is not available in school but there are many student cares nearby like joyhouse.

Yes, Principal & teachers are caring & helpful.
Environment is relaxing, non-competitive. Boys truly enjoyed themselves.
I have a long relationship with CHS since the former Principal Mr Lee's time πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
I have 1 boy in JC now, another in CHS Year 1 IP, and a 3rd one in P5. All worked hard yet also played hard πŸ™‚

Thank you so much for your reply.

That’s great to hear. So far I only hear say that the environment focuses too much on the academics and it is very stressful.
But you said otherwise and I am hopeful again. I moved house to Bishan just so that we have a chance to ballot for CHS.
How did you manage to get your kids into CHS? Through alumni?

We got in via phase 2C (also moved to a house next to CHS).
During my DS1, balloting ratio was quite good, 2/3 chance (that time it was 60+ boys balloting for 40+ places).
Then DS2&DS3 tag onto DS1 & got in via Phase 1.
By DS3 's year, balloting ratio was around 1/7 !!
The following year even worse: single digit vacancies left for phases 2B & 2C.
But now MOE new rule says need to reserve vacancies for Phase 2B & 2C, so you have better chance now πŸ™‚

Oh ya, another new rule to your advantage:

During my DS1 's balloting, Singaporean & PR all have equal chance.
Now I think all vacancies to be filled by Singaporean 1st.

Thanks for all your sharings. Very tempted to try phase 2c but worried that i will end up in a school not of my choice.

Still thinking if I should try KCP instead as it may stand a higher chance.

If you want to try KCP, also need to stay within 1km or are you within 1km of both schools? That would be the best then you can monitor your chances during registration time.

See the last 2 years balloting history, and you will know what I mean
