How useful/value for money is the irobot? I’ve been dreaming of getting one since I saw it on some Korean drama. Can tell me how much did you pay for it?

Paid around $400 for a basic model.

It is useful but not very reliable. I don't know whether it is pertaining to that particular model we bought or similar failure rate for all other models. We've made numerous trips to its service center. However, irobot is indispensable to us. Will definitely buy another replacement if the current one is beyond repair

After pregnancy, I relocated to KL to join my hubby. (Was shuttling between the 2 cities previously.) Because of morning sickness, I stopped working and have been SAHM since pregnant days. Son is 14 months now, our daily schedule is something like this:


10am Rise & Shine
Breakfast
Sort out laundry
Prepare ingredients for lunch (for domestic helper to cook)
11am-12+pm Home learning
Lunch, chat with SIL
2.30-5pm Son naps, I work on my blog, web & business from laptop
Free play, tea break
7pm Dinner
wash son's dishes
Hubby plays with son
10pm Lights out, chat with hubby

Weekends: we go to Shichida classes, shop for grocery and have meals outside

Living with extended family means i can chat with my SIL who is also SAHM and the kids can play together. Extra pair of hands around too when I need help.

Domestic helper does the cleaning and cooking, while I prefer to handle my boy's food, dishes and laundry personally.

Starting my own small business gives me challenging work to do while my boy naps. In future, when my child(ren) go to school, I can also work longer hours on it. As an own business, it can also generate extra income.

Every few months, I'll bring my boy to visit my family in Singapore. These trips are very important to me.

Because son is 14 months old only and dishes need to be washed separately and thoroughly, in case maid doesn't do a good job? :?

My son used to be in afternoon session for P1/2, and daughter was in morn session in K1...had a maid who would cook lunch while I coached son in his studies in the morning. It was a mad rush bcos of squeezing in light breakfast, revision, lunch, bath and leaving at 12pm. it was frustrating esp when he was in P1...son cannot concentrate and daughter was demanding attention then :frustrated:

Since last year when both went to school in the morn, I could breathe easier. Now that I have no maid, I will go crazy if both are in diff sessions.
The advantage of different sessions mean I have 100% attention for each child. Now, I cook simple lunch in the morn, go out to IMM to relax or surf Net. I am busy once both comes home but at least I 'enjoyed' the 3 hours peace in the morn.

Same for me, Janet. With both kids in school till about 1.30pm, I have more peaceful time in the morning. If it gets too hot at home in the morning, I just bring my netbook and surf at the nearby macdonalds.

Hey ladies me too.. ermm.. at least when both were in preschool couple
years back. Plus i get 4 hours plus minus two-way transport journey..
since the centre was a distance away. I have tried putting them in AM
which allowed me to sleep in after sending them off.. also tried mid
session 11 to 2pm which was ok, cos they were tired right after sch
and both will sleep it off till a few hours before dinner.. but the last
session btwn 2 to 5pm was the best! I wud have btwn 1:30pm to
like 5:30pm every day! Woohoo! Afternoon more best cos can
squeeze hi-tea with frenz, see shows @ the cinema or just go
window shop!

Now one in AM and another in PM.. I get one on one time with both
DDs which is a plus, cos both together can be quite a mad house since
both different levels so require different focus.

I have between 12 to 1pm to chill, surf and do stuff. So still quite a rush
for me. Unless of course, i can wake up earlier to finish up with cooking
and house chores. When DD1 naps in the afternoon i'd get another few
hours to myself as bonus. Or else we wud also either go out or do
stuff at home together.

Their piano and violin lessons are scheduled weekday morning/afternoon
once a week so that we get weekends together.

Exactly... It is common that the dishes have a bit of vege stuck on them after washing, so I wash my boy's food and cutlery / utensils. Anyway, we live as a big family, so she already has many things to wash after meals, so I settle my boy's cleaning.

I always tell my boys that they only have 1 mummy but mummy has 2 boys, so they need to share their time spent with mummy. When they are both home in the afternoon, I will coach DS2 first because he is just in P1, work is much simpler, while DS1 do his work. Then I will coach DS1 before I start to prepare dinner. The day will just pass very quickly.

I do miss my 1 on 1 time with my DS1 because DS2 is always around. The only time when I get 1 on 1 time with him is when my hubby goes out alone with DS2. For DS2, at least I can have some individual time with him while DS1 has his CCA twice a week. I will just buy some fruits or light snacks and sit down with DS2 while he read his book and share with me occasionally about the funny excerpts from the book or tell me about what happened in school that day.
