Help on Laundry

Hi Parents


I have been washing my DS school uniforms with hands as the white uniform comes with sewn on metal buttons. Really having a hard time washing them. Now, my aczema has acted up from these washings even with gloves on.

Any advise how to deal with white uniforms with metal buttons? Can they be machine washed and still be clean without stains ?

I use washing machine to wash my DS white uniforms with metals but I put them in a laundry net.

So far so good.

My daughter's uniforms have white shirts too. I use a collar stain remover (you can find them at most supermarkets) to rub on and leave for a few minutes before washing. It's not perfect, but it works pretty well. Your hands do not need to touch the liquid. For individual stains, I will treat the spots with stain remover or just washing-up liquid (works well for food stains) and leave overnight before washing. I would expect the metal buttons can be put in the machine, but if you don't want them to get tangled with other clothes, use a net bag.

I use stain remover to spray on his collar n let it remain for a while before putting into the washer.

If you want it to be cleaner, you can soak n then scrub it.

I find that white uniforms are very difficult to remain white forever. So long as the uniforms are clean n smell nice, I don't really care if the stubborn stains stay.

Agree. I don't bother very much, and the really tough stains will just have to stay there. After all, when they are younger, they wear them 2 yrs at most before outgrowing them, and when they are older, they should take care about stains etc. The general greying and yellowing - that's just normal.

Just throw into washing machine. Unless there’s chilli sauce or black sauce stain that won’t come off after machine wash, then will soak

Perhaps I am being too particular then and afraid that the buttons will be damaged if I use the washing machine to wash. I should just close one eye and not be too concern about the stains …sigh.

I can confirm that the buttons will not be damaged or drop off so long as you put the shirt into a laundry net.

Don't worry yourself unnecessarily about stains. It's acceptable in school - meaning no teachers complain about it.

My hub has been nagging at me for having to fuss over my son’s uniform which causes my aczema to act up…

Just have to learn how to let go, haha.
