dnls mum: is chinese dance for gals 2 times a week?

zappy: so cannot join in P2,P3?
I suppose if you go n approach the CCA directly, it's possible.
But officially, students are only required to have CCA in P4.
Other than school teams, I think the only CCA's that recruit P2-P3 kids are the uniformed groups.
The rest of the activities are mostly the paid ASEP option.

Actually, if you are really interested in any particular CCA, it's best to go n talk to the coaches & teachers during the CCA time to check out the schedules and the requirements. You can also see the kids doing the activities themselves so you can gauge if you like it - better to see & gauge the impression for yourselves.

Alternatively, if you really want your kid to participate in something, eg. table tennis, even though the CCA only starts in P4, there is always the paid ASEP option for you to join them as enrichment first.

Not sure if it is still the same, my now Sec 1 DD was previously

invited to join Choir (P1 or P2…can’t remember), and then Chinese Drama in P3.

The Chinese Orchestra also sent out letters to recruit
new blood, from as early as P1. Guess they need to practice
on the instruments for a few years before they can perform on stage.

Sinny, some children started learning for eg gymnastics, badminton, wushu in preschool. Thus they may be in school teams or train with school teams as early as P1. Their parents approach the coaches.
Actually there are many selections in P1, P2, not just table tennis. The teachers are observing them during for eg PE, gym, music lessons. If the kids show potential, they will be invited to join CCA (not ASEP).
You can let your child join a variety of ASEP (paid) fr P1-P3 to see where her interest lies.

Some of the paid programs that was mentioned:

Personally, I think that exposing them via this route is more costly but the advantage is that you can try all these out before committing to a CCA/ team/ group later. Alternatively, if don't want to pay for ASEP, I have also seen students join the uniform groups before P4.

P1 P2s can join uniformed groups? When son was in P3, he said brownies was very popular with the girls in his class. As many as 6 were in brownies.

P3 confirmed but not sure about younger students.
P2's maybe but I doubt there are any P1's in the squads.

Choir, gymnastics and chinese dance are by invitation only.
As part of their curriculum, P1 students have gym and chinese dance
classes. The coaches will identify those with potential and
invite them to join the cca.
