My DS seems to slack, though he said he knows what he is doing. He complained I nagged the minute I stepped into the house. He said he is stressed by teachers, classmates and me. It is already Thurs and he has not finished his sch work, no time for any revision. He is at home alone in the day and I can’t monitor what he is doing (computer and TV locked, but he still has the handphone). I can’t take his handphone as he is alone.

His CA1 results dropped to around low 80s. He said it is tougher papers, but I can’t tell. Asked his teacher, he said he is doing fine. I thought of reducing his and my stress by reducing our expectations (told him it is ok not to go IP school), but he said I don’t trust him to do well. So tough to be mum!
Wanted to help him to go through his CA1 mistakes, but he refused. He said teachers went through already and he knows. He wanted to be "independent" but I don’t see him study much at night when I’m back home. Is he going through the "teens" period? What should I do?

              hi SydneyBB,

for ca, his results are still in the 80s…that’s not bad, really.
hubby wanted to go through the ca scripts with daughter & she also told him teachers had gone through corrections. it’s very tough AND stressful to be a mum, esp those working full time.

I have a friend who teaches Chinese 1to 1 and is good in teaching comprehension segment. As a Chinese Tutor myself, I can say that she is able to grasp the student's weaknesses rather well and target on those. You may like to contact her. Thanks and all the best for your dd

                Hi kiasufoo,

Can you pm her contact as well? My gal is weak in the comprehension element as well. Most of the marks I noted were lost in this area. Thanks!

                Hi Belle & weiweigrace,

                Have pm-ed.

Thanks

any idea wats the estimated date PSLE results will be realeased? want to plan trip...take mind away from stress temporarily

I have many friends who go away for holidays right after PSLE (i.e. absence from school) last year cos the school do not teach anymore after the PSLE anyway. There is a friend who even ask her maid to collect her DS PSLE results and SMS to them when they are overseas :rahrah: She said what done cannot be undone... Plus she says air tickets are so much cheaper during Term time :rotflmao:

                    Hi sydneybb
Yr ds sounds exactly like my ds. I hv no idea what to do too. His marks were quite consistent since p5 till now eventhough there were few minor or careless mistakes. He can do better but refused to cooperate. Want his hp, his computer & freedom. But I didnt see him put in effort to do better, at least to finish his hw. He has a habit of handing his hw late. Father wants him to go to one of the better schools but i think it is difficult unless he starts his engine now. Then i got scolded for pouring cold water.
I hv started to shortlist some schools & intend to go to the oh. But since no appeal will be entertained if doesnt meet cop, I start to have many questions. Since the cop of most schools had increased, will you take risks & waste yr 1st choice? Ie. Njc cop was 258 last yr. If yr child gets 256, will you still put njc as 1st choice? Or to be on the safe side, put in a slightly lower cop school ie. 254 or 253. I think the father will definitely scold me if in the end, the cop drops & my ds miss a chance of going to a better school. :frustrated:

I was told to think of schools across a range (in case got surprise/shock during results release) - that way, whatever kids get, I am prepared.

I would say look at the general feel whether cop is up/down across the board before deciding. Choice 1 would always be that dream school that is almost with reach. Choice 2/3 has to be more rational ones. Believe someone had eloquently drafted out strategy some time ago. You really never know and certainly don't want to bang wall if your kiddo COP actually met that dream school right?

Last year's COP is only applicable for last year's cohort. And different cohort will perform differently as a whole with different paper, strictness of marking etc. This predicament happened to us when my ds received his psle results 2 years ago. That year, it seems like the cohort's COP dipped by a lot. Everyone was shocked. It looked nearly impossible to get into his dream school. But ds's form teacher advised that there may be a chance as must look at performance of the cohort as a whole. So, ds placed his dream school as 1st choice. So when the sms came to inform that he managed to get into his 1st choice, we were ecstatic!
