Do you have a rough gauge on the fees structure? I only heard around $300 a month for IP schools.

Can anyone advise whether can use correction tape during psle written exam?

Went to google 'correction tape' in SEAB website. Results showed a forum letter http://www.seab.gov.sg/.../PSLE_CorrectionTape_Forum_Reply_05072006.pdf that says it's discouraged (no mention of disallowed) but the reply went on to include


\"Based on our past experience, we found that the use of correction
fluid/tape can affect the performance of pupils and the legibility of their scripts.
Examples of these include:
· Pupils forgetting to write in their answers after applying correction fluid, because they went on to answer other questions while waiting for the correction fluid to dry.
· Pupils spending time waiting for the correction fluid to dry or reapplying correction tape to mask their original answers, before proceeding to answer other questions. This results in some loss of
time.
· Pupils writing answers when the correction fluid is still moist, thus rendering their answers illegible.
· Correction fluid adhering to the opposite face of the answer script, causing answers on the opposite face to be smudged.
· Correction tape causing opposite faces of the answer script to be stuck to each other. Separating these pages during marking could cause damage to the scripts and hence affect the legibility of answers.\"


Letter says discourage not disallow - so I don't think kids will be penalised if they use. In view of what they had experienced, I think it's pretty sensible - I faintly recall forgetting ever to write something down because I proceeded on waiting for the correction fluid to dry, not sure if it was during exam time.

Exam time is short (relatively), applying and waiting for fluid to dry or tape to be on target will waste precious seconds/minutes. May as well strike out nicely and continue. Believe the markers should be kinder than primary one teachers (I still shudder when I recall DS P1 days where freehand straight lines are immediately marked wrong).

Sigh... SA1 exam format and topics to be tested are given to DS yesterday...

My dd received the SA1 examinable topics and format letter when she was having her CA exams. I could not believe my eyes and just filed them away. I guess I must take out them now and read them.

You kidding me :yikes:
School sent out SA1 topics while CA is going on??? This is scary. What are the additional topics which will be tested?

My DS cannot go without correction tape. His handwriting is quite big and untidy, hence he may not have space to rewrite the answers. I have asked his form teacher and she said it is ok to use as long as the pen ink will not smear and the students remember to write the correct answer over it immediately (don't need to wait for it to dry for correction tape).
All at own risk, of cos.
Minimise the usage - that's what I have been telling my boy.

It is tough to gauge where my DS stands between schools of COP 240+ or COP 250+ (for IP).

Some parents of his sch seniors told me that since he got top 10% in his pri sch (edusave scholarship award for P5), he should be able to get 250+ based on his school's past years PSLE performance.
Hence, I'm thinking of DSA IP school, but worried he can't cope if he is not diligent. He wants IP sch as he loves projects, open discussion, etc, but when comes to sitting down to practise sums, reading, he starts to daydream.
I was able to look through his sch work in the past, but this year, he refused to show me. How to coach him like that?

Hi SydneyBB, don't try to get your ds into an IP school just because he has sufficient cop to get in. It has to be also based on his capabilities, personality and character. In IP schools, he must be an independent learner and a self learner. There are kids with very high psle scores bombing out of the IP syllabus and transferring to the O Level class after they enter IP school. So it boils down to how well you know your ds and what is suits him best.

With your ds, try to discuss your findings of him with his form teacher and find out what caused the distraction and the change in attitude. Is there a similar change at home and in class? Perhaps he is feeling the pressure from his teachers and his peers?

How to see if one is independent learner? My colleague's son who is in RI (sec 3) said most kids are not very diligent as to do extra worksheets but they will finish homework and projects given. They are independent to find resources if needed, but not finding extra notes for all subjects. Most spent a lot of time in CCA. Do IP schools' teachers teach? How different is the way of teaching between IP and O level track?
Anyone has any example to share?

Correction tape or fluid can be used... but most schools recommend correction tape so that the kids do not have to wait for the correct fluid to dry.

Tell me about it! The additional topics include Circles and Speed but exclude Nets and Pie Charts. I wonder whether the school can really cover the new topics and revise at the same time by the SA1s. My dd's math SA1 paper is on 13/5. :faint:

daughter's math SA1 is on 11/5...3 additional topics-circles, angles in geometric figures and area & perimeter of composite figures.
