2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

Herbie:
We just came back from the Open House at NJC... It won't be easy to get into NJC, got to clear the test (3 components) and camp... similiar to NUSH...
So it's similar to last year. Still have interview? i think the interview is the scariest component. -

Correction needed. This coming year will be the 3rd year of nJC sec 1s (in 2011).[
this will be 2nd year of NJC Sec 1 (2011). For a few years they only have sec 3 onwards
There is an existing group of jH2s who joined in year 2009 (approx 150).
The current jH1s for this year 2010 (around 190).
So from this year 2010, nJC is already operating as a full 6 year programme with the Junior high (year 1s to year 4s) being their Integrated programme students. no students will be taken in at year 3 now. maximum for each year's cohort will be capped at 250 from next year onwards. -

NJC has a fairer admission system, no preference over GEPers. Maybe cos they don't have GEP programmes. So I guess not many GEPers will apply to NJC.
so, their potential students have all gone to HCI/RI/RGS/DHS/NYGH etc which provided the seamless IP program - certainty of a good JC as long as no major \"mishap\" from sec 1 to sec 4. NJC also loses out in attractiveness due to not having SBGE, so naturally all the GEPpers have gone elsewhere
hence there was a drought of good students entering NJC when COMPARED with HCI/RI/RGS/DHS/NYGH - resulting in not producing any president scholar for a very long period of time
now that NJC is playing catch up by taking in sec 1, but the competition for students is tough[/quote]but they came to my ds' school for presentation and mentioned that students who are very good in any subject can accelerate in that subject and this attracted one of my ds' classmates (geper)... -
Cheerfuldad:
Yr ds must be one of the lucky few! :celebrate:mathsparks:
based on heresay, for mainstreamers applying via academics alone (i.e. score more than 90 marks in year end exams), they've been advised to apply after the psle results are released..unless the student has particpated and excelled in competitions.
I do not agree with the hearsay, last year my DS's score was average 93 except HCL was in the range of 75. He got in HCI through DSA.
So, I would strongly encourage parents to try out DSA for their kid if you think your kid is up to mark.
God Bless!
I was just sharing wat I heard, nothing to agree or disagree. -

========================
what I meant is NJC is having tough time competing with other IP schools to attract those top students to join them because of its lack of SBGE. of course there is very few GEPpers to go around anyway (personal opinion hor)
vlim, i presume your ds is a GEPper -
MdmKS:
My ds kenna the same advice from two of the famous schools which Mathspark mentioned. Luckily not all top schools are like that, another top school gave him an offer for DSA and now he is with this school though his result could make it to the others, cos angry with them wat. I always think he may be in one of the first two schools now if he had waited till PSLE release.
:thankyou: mdmks for coming to my \"rescue\"..for confirming wat I heard; I definitely didn't cook this up; ask around and you'll come across many other cases. In fact I was so shocked with this advice given to mainstreamers that I still remember it 1 year later. -

what i heard was also directly from the principal in the Q& A because the boy who asked was scoring high 80s....whether he got in via DSA or not I am not sure, but surely the principal asked him to apply early
some months later I spoke to the principal again and got those details that I mentioned in this thread -
