Though my dd struggled in Chinese (along with panicked parents)...I will still vote \"NO\" here for the sake of our future generation & competition landscape. After all we are proud to be Chinese, so why lessen the importance of learning the language?

LKY once said: 华人学华语天经地义. but now the move will subotage all the effors made for being billingual....

I wonder if these people should call themselves elite. Elite should be people who are intelligent. But what I see now is just the opposite, they are not even able to take the challenge from Chinese language, they find it difficult, which means they admit themselves not as intelligent as those who can master the Chinese Language.

Poor Singaporean, we are ruled by this group of inadequate \"Elite\"
think those Elite group are very selfish, in order for their children or grandchildren to ace into top sec school, they want to change the system at the expense of our future generations.....

on a hindsight, most top schools support bilingualism. so they will also prefer bilingual kids rather than monolingual kids.

so even if these kantang kids score 280, there are still so many brighter SG kids or even prcs who do better than them. maybe there is still no spaces for them afterall. plus people see their credentials, cant even face up to challenge but still have face to call themselves elites. haha. so funny  buay paiseh

anyway, if kantangs dont support bilingualism, dont see a need for them to scramble to top schools. they will suffer there eventually too. fastest and easiest way just set up a kantang school where all kantangs can gather and kantangise. :celebrate:

feel shamed to see Singapore take such a souless step backward when 孔子学院 is sprouting worldwide even in Africa.

no need, they will just come out with another policy and turn these top schools to kantang schools...................

haha, not so easy i hope. top independent schs i suppose know what really is best. they have no fear of not having students because there are still so many elite bilingual students over here.

many of them with rich past, how can they forgo their vision and goal overnight, over a few kantang kias. people who painstakingly started the schools and inculcate the values see also will angry :?:

very pathetic that MOE is thinking of this idea.my 3 children go thru three diff types of chinesesTB. my no. 1 was the last batch to use the TB that was so "wordy" with small print. then my no.2 used another "version" TB(took PSLE in 2007, 2nd PSLE batch) and that particular TB was replaced ultimately within 4 yrs of use( i think??) cos my no.3 is using the newest TB, taking the new PSLE chinese format this yr. comparing the 3 TB, the words got bigger but passage got shorter…

I guess that with the changing of TB and still children find it diff to learn chinese, that’s why they thinking of reducing the weightage…

Personally, i feel that children should learn to "fit" into the environment rather than change the environment to suit them… Just my thoughts!

                        Dear fellow parents,

if you are concerned about the PSLE cutting of MT weighing, kindly lend your support to the petition. Just imagine the consequences of the reduction in mother tongue weighing it has on the motivation to learn the language!!
