Anyone can share how the talk by the principal went today? We had to forgo the open house as SMOPS ended after 1pm for ds! Thanks.
lurline:
Based on my short term memory (others please correct me if I'm wrong). Not in order of importance ...Please share what was covered by the principal and any changes? Thanks!
- there were a few asteroids named after NUSH graduates who won the Intel ISEF competition.
- 30% of NUSH grads went on to non-Math/Sci undergrad courses so enrolment will not limit career choices. It was mentioned some went into humanities like music, law & history.
- Low student-staff ratio allows strong mentorship support
- Sch life not limited to just Math & Sci activities. There are also community and charity work.
- Lots of collaboration with international research community including sharing by Nobel laureates.
- Strong support by NUS. Many NUSH students take university modules by Y5/6. 2 even taking them in Y1! :yikes:
- Good opportunities for overseas exposure
- Strong results by NUSH in overseas competitions
- New modules recently introduced includes robotics, astronomy, computing, satellite technology (Galileo).
That's all I can remember. -
Hi iRabbit,
Thanks for sharing!
wanted to meet the new principal but didn’t have the chance.
ds2 has a great time at the open house booths . -

Without getting into details, I summarised what was shared as liking the pedagogy of the sch which is unique. I spoke to 4 Y1 ex-geppers (don't want to say which sch coz must respect privacy) as they were manning the booth.
What were their reasons?sleepy:

Spoke to a few students manning the booths. There were a few ex-geppers who chose NUSH despite having CO from other top notched schs. So I tried to be cheeky and asked them why?
To me, how the msg was communicate is as impt as what the msg was. Those were 4 earnest kids.[/quote]

Reached there at 1 pm, tickets already long \"out of stock\", the response was too overwhelming despite the heavy rain and traffic. :yikes: -

Haven't got chance to really see the new P, hopefully can see her on this coming Speech Day. :evil:By the time we left HCI, it was drizzling with traffic building up towards NUSH. Couldn't get tickets but was allowed in after the talk started and there were vacancies. New P is very good; really understands the mindset and concerns of parents. I feel that she hit all the right notes.

I'm still unsure how keen ds is on this sch but as a parent, I have no qualms if he is to join. That's what I can say. Overall a very good experience.
Which booth did you go ? I know quite a number geppers joined NUSH. -

There are also plenty of opportunities for scholarship applications throughout the 6 years, e.g. DSTA, A Star, MOE, etc ... The school provides strong support for all these.bgmum:

Attended NUS Open House today and after looking at the presentation, have a question regarding the number of applicants.
One of the slides mentioned that of the 2000 applicants that take the exam, 400 will be invited to camp. Does NUS look at all the applications and then only invite 2000 to take the exam? or is it an estimate of how many applicants they might get this year? -
If nothing has changed, everyone who applies will have to take the entrance test.
