krazy:
Good morning parents,
I was looking at their website. I have a question regarding fees; besides the monthly sch and miscellaneous fees, are there any other costs involve?
Do students in the visual arts need to pay for the raw materials they use in class? How often do students go on Learning Journeys to other countries? Do the Year 1s get to go or will it start for say, Year 2s onwards?
We are Yr 1 VA and so far monthly payment had been just school fees + misc fees.
They had been to 2 learning journeys so far, no fees payable.
Level 1 camp to Msia coming up and no payment due for that too.
VA Yr 1 will be given a list of art materials to purchase at start of year. Teacher may require them to purchase at a go or space out depending on needs. Estimate total $200 expenses (assuming buying student grade brands), bearing in mind that some materials can last them for 6 years e.g. toolbox, brushes etc.
Other items not listed e.g. paper, clay, will be provided by school. -

Thank you so much for the information.

Hi all, My son is looking to apply for VA and Theatre, but I was wondering if his P5 results would be taken into account - he did quite badly...very badly in fact  but he is passionate; for VA in particular. He has a portfolio of sorts and is still working on a few more pieces.
Any advice from parents with kids there or current students? -
I don’t have a child in there nor am i a current student, but if you look at the application form, you need to submit a copy of your child’s P5 SA1 and SA2 results. If shortlisted, you also need to provide P6 SA1 results.
They want to have a sense as to whether your child can handle the IB Diploma, and that is also partly the reason for the Cognitive exercise and interview. This is what I learnt from speaking to the teachers at the Open House. Your child needs to be able to make it to the express stream based on your PSLE T-score before you can enrol at SOTA. If his PSLE score does not qualify him for express, he won’t be able to go to SOTA even if he has received a confirmed offer before that. -
Yes that I understand. I’m just wondering about the shortlisting for TA. the weightage of his P5 results on that. Compared to the weightage on the portfolio submitted.

What happens if kids don’t do well academically at SOTA? Anyone know of the minimum requirements?

My child was still \"playing\" at P5. So his P5 results was also disastrous.
I suspect the phase 1 portfolio & P5 results is a 50-50.
We were eventually offered a WL as his P6 SA1 was just picking up.
So I guess the child's academic performance (from school results & cognitive test) does play a part in the offer. -

To progress from Y1 to Y2, the academic subjects is 50%, art form is 50%.
So sufficient attention should still be given to the non art subjects. -
Dear all,
I know its still far away but will like to get ready. The school teachers are also helping.
My gal is still in P3 this year and she had failed her Chinese since P2 CA2. It had pull down her marks but overall still can get 60%-62%. Will it affect to get into SOTA? Or apply application that time when DSA? She really have the passion and wants to be an artist when grow up. This year she just join the Art Club and was chosen to be 1 out of 3 students to represent the school for Art Competition. If she never win any prizes, can I indicate in the DSA application form?
Please help -
Cool thanks. And did your child get accepted after the WL?
