well, my ds's P1 ptm is coming.

What are the questions do parents usually ask or what kind of info to parents lookout for during such sessions.
I always get tongue-tied and when i get home then i have hundred and one qns to ask....

      What do fellow parents suggest?
I had my DD's PTM last month. For me, the most important is how we could communicate with the teachers. For my case, I am allowed to send emails to them if I have any doubt about lessons taught in school. The other things are normal kiasu parents would ask:

      - How's the teaching method
      - How's our child doing in class
      - Test and exam format

      very kiasu........

        our usual questions -

        1) is she happy in class/school
        2) is she getting along well with her friends
        3) does she seek help from teacher if she doesnt understand the lesson
        4) what are the areas the teacher think our child need help with
        5) if child is weak in a particular subject, is there any book/website the teacher could recommend (especially for mandarin)
        6) tell teacher we are always happy to receive calls/emails from her for whatsoever reason
        7) is her performance average in the class/level

        hopes that help

        cheers 😄

I suggest u write down the questions that you would like to ask the teacher. (in case you forgot or got carried away that you didn't ask or time's up) or get the teacher's email add so you can email him/her the questions. Usually, things that i ask would be : how's my girl in class, academically and socially...things like..

I think it’s good that the teacher takes the time to meet up with you. Believe me, teachers have a lot of other things to do and if they want to spend time to talk to you, it must be something quite important. They view you as someone important who can probably help them to reach out to the kid and help him to become better…

As for the comment that she made, don’t worry too much about it. It is probably just a passing remark. Just keep an open mind when you go and meet her. Listen to her comments, be it positive or negative. If it is negative comment, ask her how both of you can work together to help your son to improve.

I think it is good that she alerted you early in the semester…would you rather she call you one week before SA2 and tell you that your kid has not been doing his work properly and will most probably flunk the subject?

I agree, for teacher to ask to see parents, I would reckon that’s probably not teacher’s favourite thing to do and it takes up their time. If the teacher is willing to take the initiative to meet up, it’s a good opportunity to find out more regarding your son’s progress in school. It’s even better to do it early rather than doing it weeks before the exams. Got more time to do any ‘rescue work’.
