From my dd's school, it seems to be so. Year after year, looking at the trend of students, it seems like the foundation for this batch of kids is not that strong. Or perhaps the standard is getting higher making them look weaker than previous batches? Hmmm.....

i think it's the standard is higher now...so the kids have problems coping.
my son took psle in 2012 and he said sister's math level is harder.

irabbit, I agree with you! Tough papers are indeed very demoralising for the kid and some may just lose confidence totally. Sigh.

I relate to one incident my colleague told me. She shared half her boy's P5 classmates in a HA class failed CL exam. I can't imagine what's the stats like for MA classes then. :slapshead:

I'm all for differentiation as top students need to be academically challenged. But some schs carry it too far. :spank:

I guess Parents will need to provide more emotional support and motivation to our DC...for them to continue to persevere and to have the 'never give up' mentality.

tell me how we can avoid the stress of PSLE when even mid year papers are so tough? there is prelims after this...cannot bochap right? confidence is the main ingredient to keep our kids going.

Yes, I agree. Confidence and 'never give up' frame of mind. This is what I try to tell DS everytime he gets frustrated and upset with himself when he couldn't answer the practice questions. Keep telling him to try...and try and focused on the task at hand.

True, we cannot avoid the stress that comes with this Prelims and PSLE. And yes, cannot bochap. That's what I meant that we and DC need to persevere and keep working on it.

My DS needs to work harder on his Sc and MT papers. Both wife and I devised a schedule to help our DS in his daily work, practices and revision. But unfortunately we can't really help DS with MT....got to leave it to the tutor and school remedial.

Now, everyday I think, wonder and question myself on what we as parents can do more for our DS in preparing for the coming Prelims and PSLE.

At this point in time, all we can do for the kids is to keep motivating and encouraging them.

Can't wait to be done with PSLE :frustrated:

Honestly, as a parent, I’ve learnt not to over-react (probably immuned liao) on such unnecessarily challenging exams…eg where 1/2 to 3/4 of the class failed the exams. I know my kid already feels bad, so I avoid adding oil to fire. The only thing I’ve been telling him this year is that … after each exam, just pick yourself up, learn from mistakes, move on and focus on preparation for PSLE…

I also dun understand why sometimes schools are like out to kill and demoralize them…so I just tell my DS to move on…

What you have done is correct, no need to over react especially when the class or whole cohort is not doing well.

Schools will always try to set their standards higher than national standard so that when the students sit for PSLE, they will find it easier to answer the questions. Worst case will be when the students find PSLE questions more challenging than school exams n they will feel even more demoralized.

                    😄

Yup, all we can do it to keep encouraging our kids and telling them that they can do it. Just do their best and making sure that they have enough sleep and nutrition.

This is my last PSLE. Can't wait for it to be over and done with.
