Actually, I am one of those who did not know a single bit of English when I graduated from kindergarten as well. But back then, students have the luxury of time to learn step by step.
The situation now is different. Everything is moving at such a fast pace, so much so that by the time one realises that he or she is lagging, it is by and large, a tad too late.
Of course, we need to strike a balance between realising one's potential, against pushing towards the extremities....SpartanMum:
Hmmmm...there are a number of folks...our parents generation... who came from various countries and landed in SG whilst they were in their teens and 20s...not knowing a word of English...went to night school and did well...well enough to master English...passioninlearning:
I have often shared with parents that it's only 1 more year (sec 1) before the opportunity to master English as a language lapses. So in my view, it is indeed a good idea to have some english guidance after PSLE.

As parents, one will need to be aware of the child's existing standards, as well as potential for achievement in the relevant subject.
This is much akin to what I often tell parents, that \"not everyone can get A in a particular subject\".Joy of Learning 111:

may I know if your child is doing PSLE this year? do you have younger kid who can use this materials later ?
this is based on 2017 new oral format which require student to view video instead of still pic. if your child is taking 2016 PSLE oral, his/her oral still follows old format. as such, you might want to consider buying from some parents who have old oral books for home practice. most important is to use them as reference for your child on various topics to be tested. let him/her familiar with useful terms and phrases to help in expressing his/her thoughts.

thanks a lot for the clarification! i was rather confused over the cut off date on the change of PSLE CL oral format. Noted now that the current batch (PSLE in 2016) will not be affected and the new format only start in year 2017. My eldest taking PSLE in 2017 so she will be affected, need to get input about this product before buying...it's okay i will check other forums for feedback.. -

Prelims oral 23/7, prelims main papers begin 1/8....also the busiest period for DSAs.....woohoo.....high times ahead

prelim oral last week of july. prelim written papers week 9.
since the beginning of term 3, daughter has more english homework than the other subjects. i am sure she will be loaded with a lot today since it's a long weekend. -
During term 1 and 2 when the workload was manageable, I can at least help along with some revision with him. Since June onwards, we are overwhelm by the increased homework load, supplementary classes etc, and it is hard to stick to the revision plan. Feel rather insecure. Not sure if you encounter the same too

i know what you mean. towards sa1, my daughter had so much homework i had to make sure she has sufficient rest. on my side, i had to hold back. on the days she has supplementary lessons, i do not give her any work as well. for the whole of this week, she has quite a bit of english homework as well.
