      Hello all,

Just would like to share that I am also in the psg & so do get to interact with other parents who tell me about experiences heard. Some have shared that they call school & have been told to put their child on waitlist first. So I just want to share as I was very anxious at P1 registration the last time as well & try to advise parents now.The choice is of course up to parents to make.

      Happy weekend!
Hi I don't understand what you mean call school and have been told to put their child on waitlist first? I intending to enrol my child to this school next year hence any information please kindly share further.

      Thanks.

        Hello,

What I mean is that when after P1 registration exercise, parents change mind about a school they already registered child in.Then, parent has to most probably put child on waitlist of preferred school. So that is why my advice is must choose the right school suited for your child at registration time.

As P1 registration is just round the corner. I would like to take this chance to share some of the information about WPS with potential parents and guardians. I am one of the pioneer parents who have place our faith and believe with this \"new kid on the block\" back in 2014 the year the school started. What I like about this school is they engage parents and the school leadership dare to try out new ideas in educating the children as it is a new school hence they don't have the old baggage to carry with them. Every week the school will upload some photos about the school activities at their online album, Flickr(Yahoo) parents are able to find out what is happening in the school but the school is thoughtful enough to seek permission from the parents if they want their child photos to appear. Parents who want to safe guard the privacy of their children can indicate to the school not to have their child photos uploaded. Every year the school will organize outing for the children to visit so far the places they have visited are East Coast Park(sand castle building), Garden by the bay(to learn about plants), Dairy farm @ Hillview(to learn about nature and environment) this year my girl is going to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve come this July. The school believe in going outdoor to enhance a child knowledge and make learning fun. One of the most popular events organize by the school is the sports day. A lot of parents actually like this event as there is an activity which require both parents and child to take part together so it is a great time for bonding. Despite not having any PSLE results to show for the school has done well in the recent Singapore & Asian Schools Maths Olympiad(SASMO)where thousands of students participate internationally & established schools in Singapore participate as well, West Spring performed very well for a new school, out-performing well-established schools as well.

WPS clinched top position for P2-clinching top 4th position out of 595 international participants. For P3-clinching top 7th position out of 881 international participants.

In total, the school garnered 16 Gold,9 Silver & 14 Bronze awards for this international maths competition showing the learning approach is effective in the school. The students who are involved in the competition were trained by experienced teachers from the school. I do heard that some school engage vendors to train their students for maths Olympiad.

The recent award the school received ECO ACTION DAY 2016 testifies the school's good academic & character development programme where students learn through experiences themselves. For example in learning about science students get to grow, water & harvest the vegetables at the LIFE garden in the school. It's so lovely to even see parent support group members chipping in to help out at the garden too ! Fantastic teamwork with students, teachers, staff & parents all working together in the WPS family for our children's education.

This way, students get to learn from experience how vegetables grow & learn about character development as well when they learn to work together harmoniously in teams of students.
Nowadays, Singapore is so urbanized that children don't know how vegetables are grown.
The school also teaches the children good values as every day, 5mins before school ends, they must automatically clean up the classrooms. This also happens in the canteen where children must learn to clean up after they have eaten & learn to be caring & considerate by keeping the school clean. The school also won the Gold Award this year for maintaining clean toilets & again students are taught to be considerate & to keep the toilets clean after use & to care for the old aunty & uncle cleaners who need to clean the toilets every day. Nowadays, children are so pampered that they don't help out at home. It's good that children at WPS get exposed to such experiences in school as it teaches good basic values. My daughter now volunteers to also help out with housework at home because of what she learnt in school every day.

The school also introduces science at P1 & P2 through fun ways to get children interested in science from a young age. Good job as that helps students love learning & will ensure they do well at PSLE.

West Spring Primary is also the very first school in Singapore to have a sand pit to facilitate sand castle building. Sand castle building helps to enhance a child creativity.

Here are some of the reviews and comments written by parents about the school on the school FB page. https://www.facebook.com/West-Spring-Pr ... 3/reviews/ 😄
