PLMGS is too far… sighh… no choice

Hi everyone,
I'm new to P1 registration and planning ahead for my little girl for 2018. Kinda Kaisu.. but afraid i missed out deadlines and thus hope to understand the phases better.
We are looking at schools nearest to our home. Holy innocent is around 1.7-1.8km.
For phase 2(B) at the MOE site:
(a) For a child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 July 2015 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 June 2016
(b) For a child whose parent is a member endorsed by the church / clan directly connected with the primary school
(c) For a child whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader
QNS: 1) Do we need to be a,b,c all of the above to get into 2(B)? We are not Catholic member or active community leaders..
2) what do we do as parent volunteers? and how do they clock the hours?
Thank you in advanced from replies from experienced parents

Dear parents … any idea the chance of getting into Holy Innocent at 2B phrase > 2km? and also where is the school currently at now

No, you only need to be a, b or c to qualify.Adelineahmei:
Depends on the school. Some schools need traffic wardens. So you will be in school for perhaps half an hour each morning to direct the traffic that is going into the school. With this, you clock half an hour each day. Some schools need parents to accompany students on their learning journeys. The number of hours clocked here depends on the nature of the trip, etc.2) what do we do as parent volunteers? and how do they clock the hours?

Hi qms,
Thank u for ur reply
Do u know if chances are higher if you are a and b? E.g Catholic and also a parent volunteer or just being pv only will still have equal chances? If e.g there's 50 places left in 2B, and there are 60 pp apply 2B. Two scenario: 1) Some are pv but not Catholic but lives less than 2km, and with those who are both a and b but lives more than 2km, who will get the 50 slots? 2) All 60 pp lives within 2km but there are some who are also Catholic and pv, who gets better chances or just being either a or b is enough? -
Adelineahmei:
there is.no distinction made even if you are a,b and c during registration. however some have suggested that if you have been a consistent pv and failed to enroll during phase 2b, the school may be able to put you higher in the queue for transfer application. note the keyword is may.Hi qms,

Hi everyone, am looking to join the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan as a volunteer, hoping to get a recommendation letter to P1 registration in 2018 for my girl. But understand will require 2 sponsors signature to join. Can anyone here kindly help?

Hi hquek,
Thank you. I see. Great to hear there’s no indiction. I hope I will able to get my elder daughter in because that’s the nearest school. If she manage to get in, will be easier for my next child to get in too. Hopefully the school will be back in Hougang in 2019. finger crossed. Does anyone know whether we need to queue up early in the morning for HIPS to get register as volunteer? Heard other school that this is happening and there’s limited slots. Any idea how HIPS screen for pv? Is pv also always over subscribed? -
Can anyone share how many recommendation letters were given by Hokkien Huay Kuan? This year the competition for five Hokkien Huay Kuan schools aren’t so fierce like previous years. So like to know how generous HUAY KUAN is to give out the recommendation letters.
Thx~! -

This is from what I had gotten years back. SHHK themselves won't know in advance how many they can give. Seems like each year, they will gauge based on whatever's left after 2A and determine how many letters they can issue. There is no fixed number. Also they seem to rank members based on a variety of criteria and should demand exceed supply, a line will be drawn somewhere. The only thing we know is that the longer tenure the member is, and more active the member is, the more preference will be given. Can anyone share how many recommendation letters were given by Hokkien Huay Kuan?
