better not unless you are keen to have HDB officers come knocking on your door within days investigating why you change your ic address within MOP (that stress happened to a close friend of mine - by the way, your ic address change is auto-reported to HDB). if 1-2km can get in, better use grandparents address instead with all the relevant documents.

Unless you intend to move in with your parents, it is against the law

to declare an address you don’t actually live in as your residential address.

By the way, I just called in HDB to clarify on this. Their reply is that I did not infringe any rules so long that my HDB is not subletting out etc…

You are not infringing any HDB rule if you do not sublet.

However, you will be infringing on MOE P1 registration rule if you do not intend to stay there permanently for 30 months (?).

I’m already staying with my inlaws since 3 years ago and my HDB left vacant.

And I will be intending to stay there since it’s more convenient for my work and childcare arrangement.

i’m happy for you if so. but i suggest you get HDB official reply via email/snailmail rather than hearing such an important piece of news over the phone - in case of query, there’s actually no hard proof in your situation that the HDB officer said what you think he said. and the officer in charge of your case is probably going to be someone else.

Hi parents, I understand that phase 2c registration is over 3 days. Will MOE report registration numbers for the 1st and 2nd day? I thought it will be good for me to gauge if its mathematically possible for me to get into my 1st choice of School(nearest to me). Thanks.

It will be the same as other phases, daily updates by 8pm.

Also consider calling up the school directly to ask. MOE will only update total number of applicants, not the breakdown by citizenship or distance.

Without the distance breakdown, the numbers given by MOE website
is not a good gauge of your chances.

Say a school has 100 places available,
with 115 applicants registered. It might look
like a pretty good odd based on these numbers
                        reported by MOE.

But, if 99 of those applicants were < 1km and the
rest 1-2 km, come balloting time it will be 16 applicants
                        balloting for 1 place!
