Hi parents of current SST students. Would anyone be able to share about your kids’ experience in SST so far? Applied science is v chim & I cannot understand what is it. How different is SST as compared to a normal ms school or IP programme?
As SST only accepts DSA students. Has anyone regretted their choice after receiving PSLE results?
Thanks -

When my DS did it 3 years ago, they were in groups of 5 to solve a mini project. They are they asked to answer questions about the project experience both written and oral.May I know during the selection activities, they will be grouped.

My conclusion is that it is not the school for everyone but if your child likes science and being able to learn science through more applied lens then this is the right school. My DS is exactly that and he loves his school and I think it suits him. He enjoys the fact that when he learns English, there are also elements of the other subjects to include in English. Eg, when they learn Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Design, their English assignment was to create a marketing campaign/advertisement for the product that they are creating. So he gets to work e2e.Hi parents of current SST students. Would anyone be able to share about your kids' experience in SST so far? Applied science is v chim & I cannot understand what is it. In Sec 1-2 they spend a lot of time developing such stuff but when it comes to Sec3 they start focusing on O Levels. The applied subjects very much depends on interest. For my DS cohort he only had 4 to choose from including Fundamentals of Electronics, Biotech, Media Studies and Design. My DS chose FoE cozy he wants to look into engineering later. But I understand going forward they are introducing new subjects as well to choose from. -
Great sharing! Thank you very much!

What is the timing of the school? The school does not really emphasises on holistic education right? BTW, just curious… is SST larger than NUSHS?

My son is now Sec1 in and I like to share with the parents here the limited experience my son with this school.Hi parents of current SST students. Last year until we received CO from SST, me and my wife were not very supportive for him to go cos we have better school in mind that RVS also gave us their CO. But my son's dream school is SST. I would say he's only considered above average for science and maths but has been with robotics since P3. He insisted going SST cos he know from the past years competitions that SST is very good in robotics. We let him make his decision and he decided to go ahead. This is his future, and we respect the direction he chooses for himself.
After this slightly more than half a year studies, I noticed that he has been very busy everyday and reach home late. Usually after school most of the time he will stay back, either for his dream robots or usually having group discussion. In SST life the kids are very independent. They've many projects going on ,one after another. So to me study in SST has to be very independent and strong team spirits. The projects are on group basis most of the time, so one cannot work isolated by himself/herself. So parents if your kids are going SST, please be prepared that you can only have very little time with them except over the weekends. They also has many overseas activities every year. For my son he came back from his Beijing trip 3 months ago, and is preparing for his Asia Pacific Vex for robotics competition in Nov.
As many parents mentioned, SST is not necessarily suitable for all kids if yours are not so keen in science, engineering, technology etc. And most importantly also not suitable for those who like to study on his own. Other than academics studies, possess of group spirit character is also very important in SST.
I asked my son several times, if you're given another chance, would you still want to go SST. His answer is absolutely YES. Relief to see that he enjoy very much with his new school life. He told me he did a simple survey by asking around the same question I asked him, almost all replies from his classmates are also a big YES.
Hope my messages above benefits those parents who're in doubt with what SST life is.
